Erik was mildly annoyed when Red Hood turned down his challenge. Did the man have no honour? What kind of man turns down another's request for single combat. The annoyance quickly turned to curiousity, then panic as Red Hood tossed something metallic into the gathered crowd and it began to spew gas.
Erik wasn't sure what the gas was, but it couldn't be good. Unfortunately, the cloud of gas expanded too quickly for the psychic to escape and he fell to the ground, coughing and wheezing as his body attempted to reject the gas, not even hearing Red Hood's description of the fear toxin. As he began to rise to his feet, thinking that the gas had failed, but when Erik opened his eyes, he wasn't in the Nexus.
He was back in the village he was born in. Small, poor, but not in complete poverty. 'Why am I here?' Erik wondered aloud, and went to move when he found himself bound to something. Doing his best to turn around, Erik realised he was tied to some form of wooden pole. Erik froze. No, not a pole. A pyre.
If that wasn't bad enough, at that moment the chanting started. 'Burn the abomination.' 'Kill the elder-spawn.' 'If you hear voices in your head, ignore them!' Villagers crowded around the pyre, the lead of the group holding a torch to the base. 'Good bye. May you be free of your curse in the afterlife.' Erik broke his usual composure, and cried out for someone, anyone to help him as the fire billowed beneath him.
When Erik came to, he was lying in a ball, sobbing uncontrollably. 'It's ok, it's not real, it's just an illusion.' Erik told himself as he shakily rose to his feet. He felt better after taking a few breaths and observing the scene around him. The crowd that had stood around the fountain before had devolved into a free-for-all while Erik was hallucinating.
Erik stepped forward to join in the brawl when someone grabbed his shoulder. The psychic spun around, sword drawn to face who had stopped him. Still slightly confused from the gas, Erik took a moment to realise it was Shay, a fellow member of New Babylon. His very presence inspired a great sense of peace in Erik. Not only was he not alone in this fight, but he wasn't alone in the Omniverse either.
The pair exchanged a few words, before Erik panicked slightly as he remember the grenade. Don't step on that.' Erik grimaced internally, if only he had known that earlier. His recently returned calm turned to shock, however, when Shay felt his own hallucination. Evidently, he took it a lot better than Erik.
The psychic stepped back as a girl bumped into Shay, only to be tossed aside almost harmlessly. Erik watched as Shay made his way through the crowd, admiration welling up inside the mindbreaker as his teammate fearlessly demanded the renegade return the sword, only to receive a smack in the mouth for his troubles.
Erik almost shouted in indignation, but a nod from Shay stopped him. The Templar knew what he was doing. Erik grinned as the pair of foes before him were deafened, and went to move forward when Red Hood raised his own weapons.
Erik shouted "Shay!" as his heart froze for a moment, before it restarted with greater intensity than ever. The psychic could hear his own pulse as his vision narrowed, adrenaline filling him to then brim. He didn't even see what happened to Shay after he got hit, his entire world reducing to one thing as hit rage took him. Red Hood.
Red Hood turned to his opponents, readying his pistols again before he saw something in his peripheral vision. He took a step back, narrowly avoiding a chakram aimed at his neck. Red Hood turned to see what almost deapitated him, laying his eyes on a furious Erik, a ball of swirling, purple mist in one hand and Mageslayer in the other. Before anything could come of this staredown, however, Red Hood's other opponents closed in.
Forming a psi-blade in his free hand, Erik charged at Red Hood as he was occupied by Joline. Red Hood shoved Joline away as he turned to Erik, dodging out of the way of Mageslayer and getting a small cut on his arm from the psi-blade. The pair skirmished for a moment before Erik got the same treatment as Joline did before him, and was sent sprawling, along with both of his blades.
Erik picked himself up from the ground and rushed to pick up his weapons. This obviously wasn't working, time for something else. Once he was a decent distance away from Red Hood, Erik sheathed Mageslayer and held the psi-blade in front of him. He was zealously focusing on the task at hand, unwilling to check Shay, convinced that the Templar was fine.
The blade dissipated into mist, only for even more mist to spew from Erik's cloak. The mist snaked into Erik's hand where it formed into a bow. Erik smirked slightly as he levelled the great psi-bow at Red Hood and a radiant arrow formed, knocked on the string. If he hadn't been wearing the mask, Erik was sure he could have seen the vigilantes' face pale.
'Your due reward.' Erik said bitterly as he released the arrow, the psychic bolt hurtling towards Red Hood.
