Jams and Eric walked across the larger expanse of the Scorched Grove, seeing as Melody’s set-up was a field away from the portal. Now that they had finished their quest, the thought of a new journey in another realm was rather enticing. So many places to go in the forest, perhaps even more than what the kind enchantress disclosed to them. There were certainly other portals in the distance of the Nexus, this much Jams had noticed earlier. Where did they lead? Perhaps to other verses vastly different to the Tangled Greens? Well, that much was a given, but what were they like? What wondrous escapades and marvelous adventures lie beyond what they have just witnessed? These thoughts and the likes swarmed around inside the boy’s mind like a hive of bees.
Jams took it upon himself to ask first. “‘K! So! Where should we go next?”
“I do believe,” Eric observed, ”that the parchment for which we nearly were killed just crashed into the back of your head.”
Looking behind him, the boy noticed a paper airplane behind him, the tip crumpled from smashing into his skull. He retrieved and unfolded the parchment. "Actually, no, it's a note from Melody. It says 'This parchment is a fraud. One could recreate it with a simple internet instruction video. Find something you bozos are competent enough to get right.'”
Jams read it out to Eric upon request, to which he inquired “What should we aim to-”
“Acorns.”
“What?”
“Acorns are on the list, seems pretty easy. I don’t want to go back and fight a bunch of ninjas, or do any kind of lengthy adventure that might result in our kidnapping again. So let’s just keep it simple so Melody doesn’t crucify us, and so we don’t end up doing everything on the list because we know so little about any of it.”
Eric, seeming as if he were contemplating the consequences of choosing acorns over the more obviously dangerous items on the list, eventually agreed and continued across the grove as they set out to find an acorn.
