Ash starts walking up at a face pace to the trench line that many men were waiting to take on the front line assault that set foot in the field. He takes his shotgun out of the holster and reloads it while he still had both hands. After reloading his shotgun, he does a quick roll with the weapon in his left hand then holsters it. The metal hand gets dissolved as Ash takes it off then summons the chainsaw hand once more. Archers in the trench get ready with their crossbows again primed and ready. Some of the soldiers were cleaning their weapons off from the constant fights they were in. They even made sure that their blade wasn't going dull yet. Ash stands before the trench, looking at the view of the field that was at the edge of the forest.
"Bring out the ballistas!" barked the commander giving the signal to open the gates to one of the men in the security towers.
"Open the gates!" yelled the archer from the tower down to the gate keepers.
They start to raise the big iron gate to let a couple of catapult like crossbows through. Four men start rolling these catapults out of the city and onto the battlefield. The catapults stop as they line up side to side in front of the commander and before the trench. Prepping was being done on these ancient machines to make sure things were good to go before the enemy reached out of the forest. Men that are operating these weapons start to raise the ballistas at a certain angle then crank the rope to be pulled back for loading onto the catapult. Spears that looked to be oiled up were being put in place on each weapon. One man out of the group of four held a torch that must be for lighting the tip of the object. Eagerly, the living wait for their enemies to tread out of the forest and into the open.
What sounded like was a march of the couple hundreds of the undead that were leftover from the woods coming towards their way.
"Aim!" commanded the commander again at the catapult teams.
Two men on both sides start cranking the huge crossbows to be raised and set at an angle to hit their target.
"Once they set foot near that trench, I want all teams to fire!" said the Commander loud and clear for the people operating the war machines to hear.
"Come get some you rotten teeth bastards." said one archer in the trench having his focus on aiming.
"If those brainless corpses think they can kill me. Minus well try to do it with my own blade instead of theirs." said another infantry man with his sword and shield.
One of the men right next to the confident one pulls out a locket that appears he got it from a fiance back in town which they were about get married soon in a couple days. The man squeezes the locket tightly and closes his eyes as if he's praying. After a couple a seconds, the soldier puts away the locket and focuses on the battlefield in front of them. War cries can be heard from the enemy that are at the borderline of the forest which they are about to set foot in the dry grass field.
"Alright soldiers, this is the final front assault! Stand tall everyone and show the enemy that Darkshire still has Valiant people!" yelled the commander after they heard the incoming war screams.
Suddenly, the undead pour out of the forest and many of them begin charging at the last line of defense in front of the west gate.
"Archers, fire!" barked the commander giving order for the archers to begin shooting.
After that command, he raises his right arm up with a fist giving a hold signal on the ballistas for when to begin launching.
Many of the archers wasted no time and start firing upon the enemy entering on the field. Some corpses begin dropping from the instant kills to the head but others took hits that landed on any part of their bodies besides the brain. The enemy's archers stood behind some parts of their infantry began covering fire upon the living. Arrows fly above the trench and some landed in front of it inches away from some of the living faces. Others got unlucky and got hit in the head due to being the only vulnerable body part sticking out of the trench.
The undead are coming close on the trench and still filled with horrifying screams of violence. As they are twelve yards away from the trench, the commander launches his right arm forward with his hand now pointing towards the enemy for the attack signal upon the operators of the catapults.
"Fire!" screamed the commander once more to his battalion.
They lit the tip of the deadly spears with fire then launched the fatal barrage upon the walking deceased. The barrage made an impact on the enemy from few getting hit by the flaming spears and the others got caught on fire from them hitting the area then the dry field feeds the fire causing it to spread and makes the undead have to change their routes how they are going to get pass the flames. Reloads start right away on the ballistas as the teams hurry as fast as possible. Still, the enemy marches progressively to their target and the trench filled with their nemesis. Even some of the marching corpses went through the parts of the burning field and caught on fire but still had war spirits that wouldn't die.
Now, the undead reach the trench and start attacking to try to take over the living's last defense. It was now filled with men and zombies fighting to the death at each other. Ash yanks the pull cord to start the motor in his chainsaw and runs up to the trench then jumps in joining the gruesome fight.
