Arrrgh... yet another candidate is stepping into the arena! Just when I thought I'd settled for the Elder Kiln.
A Metroid! Or, to be exact, the Metroid Infant that believed Samus to be its mum. Pros and cons time (I'll repost the Elder Kiln bit for comfort purposes)
The Elder Kiln - Runescape
This is a pretty wild idea that I came up with - and may, to my knowledge, be the first "Object" Prime since Koren the sword. Here's a link if you want to read more about the Elder Kiln - be warned, it includes a LOT of Runescape lore. For those not interested, it's basically a giant forge capable of creating living beings.
The pros are mainly about the originality of the character and its possible implications - will it have a Secondary that fakes being the Prime, while the Kiln itself poses as an object that is essentially an enormous tool or a dwelling of the fake Prime? It also has the pros of being a character from a verse with very rich content and lots of fictional culture.
The cons revolve around the character being hugely expensive. It is likely going to need Shrink and Malleability to even fit through most Nexus Gates, if such an enormous character is even allowed in the first place, even if I tone it down some, it will need Shapeshifting and a handful of powers and proficiencies. Not to mention, its moves will be absurdly complicated because it fights through summoned constructs rather than by itself. Finally, I wonder if a character like this would even be functional in events such as Dante's Abyss.
In short, it's a high risk high reward option.
The Metroid - Metroid series
The Metroid Infant carries a lot of feels with it, as it was both an adorable and an important character, to my knowledge. To be very brief about it, Metroids are synthetically engineered lifeforms that suck the life energy out of their victims and evolve into bigger and badder forms. They were first made to be a weapon against a parasite, but became a pretty important part of the series. The infant is the last remaining Metroid, which believes Samus is its mother.
Pros include that it's a character all about evolution. It could physically evolve as it gains power, becoming an Alpha, Zeta, Omega etc. Metroid or even evolve into some form I make up for it (Ridley Metroid?). The series also included all sorts of other material such as Phazon-mutated Metroids, incomplete clones etc. and if I were to run out I could still mix in something like it being able to Mimic appearances.
A cool storyline could include Coruscant experimenting with it, or possibly even creating it (did they somehow get some of Samus's DNA which includes Metroid DNA?) as a Secondary before it became a Prime. Automatic "There are no Lines" quest point right there.
Cons include that a Metroid is a mindless animal. They don't even have a real brain. That means it will need to grow intelligent somehow.
My knowledge of the Metroid Games is also limited to a pair of games as well as wikia access, and I am not certain that I would be able to play it to par. It could also be a fairly expensive character to build, as Flight is pretty much a requirement for its first couple of forms, and it has a bunch of alt or power-up forms.
Again, juggling with difficult ideas... what do you guys think? Is there a clear winner for you?
