A Final Boss Awakens!
#5
As much as Desco did not care much for the state of her Prinnies, even she was aware of the necessity for the mental well-being/ satisfaction. Sure, they were nothing more than just a batch of souls she can pull out for whatever purpose she needed them for, but they were still souls of the deceased. Souls of the damned. Besides, they got annoying when they were whiny.

That’s when she got an idea. She was already considering the prospect of trying out the various soda and candy products in Ambrosia! Why not go on a bit of candy raid? Her Prinnies reacted positively to her suggestion, and the decision was made without any further discussion. And she knew just where to go to start it off.

Enter “Chikorita’s Candy & Soda Emporium,” Ambrosia’s self-proclaimed finest manufacturer of delicious, colorful candy and bubbly, fizzy soda. Indeed, this was not an easy notion to challenge, for who else in the Omniverse sold such food and drink at such high quality? Their products were a bit of a household name within the bounds of Ambrosia; and if not for the products themselves, then the building, and what it housed, certainly held fame.

From an outsider’s perspective, both to those new to the city and to those literally outside the building, the Emporium was something to behold. A massive piece of architecture, it held up a huge sign on its rooftop; the sign itself posed a large Chikorita pokemon, albeit one wrapped in bright, pink hula feather necklaces with the large, tacky, neon pink words, “Chikorita’s Candy & Soda Emporium! Only Sweeties Allowed!” Right below the sign, in the middle of building, was a large staircase with a red carpet right down the middle, as if to give the feeling of stardom to all who walked inside. While the windows of the building were darkened, one could clearly make out the brief flashing of neon lights inside; those of pink and purple were most prevalent.

“Doooood! Look at that!” one of her Prinnies said, his eyes sparkling in delight, “Dood, let’s go in there! Please? Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleas-”

“Okay, okay! Desco says we go in there!” Desco said, advancing towards the door into the Emporium.

“Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!”

-----------------------

“Would you care for another ketchup-flavored soda, mister?” said the waitress, twirling her large, blue flower in her hand as she grabbed her patron’s emptied glass with the other. The patron, a stout skeleton, nodded towards her, not entirely bothering to speak up. Her smile faded for a moment as he looked down towards the ground.

“Are you okay, mister?” she asked, leaning forward to take a closer look at him.

He chuckled, raising his head up. He was grinning from ear to ear.

“ah, i’m fine. just thinking is all. more ketchup pop, please.” he said.

His response was more than enough for the Floette, whom curtsied for a brief moment before running off to fetch his drink.

Sans leaned back against his chair, bringing his bony legs up on top of the table. The room was incredibly dark, with the only sources of light being the pink and purple strobes that lit up the building each passing second. All around him, creatures of various shapes and sizes were getting their groove on, bouncing to the beat of some form of techno song. It sounded awfully familiar to him, for reasons he couldn’t quite pinpoint. The song was almost successful in drowning out the noises of rapidly-manufactured candy, which was being stored in massive tubes that spanned the walls and the rooftop; hell, they were glowing too, as if to complete the experience.

He chuckled, the lights in his sockets gazing at the people, the pipes, the soda, the everything around him. He had to admit, Ambrosia was a strange place. A strange place for strange folk, indeed. He had wanted to leave to continue searching for his bro, but…

His bro might have liked the place…

He sighed. He wanted to keep looking for him. To know he was okay. It was just… something kept him from just getting up and leaving. Something kept him from just going and doing it. It was like being inside a vat of quicksand; you kick, you scream, but no matter what you do, you can’t pull yourself out. The only thing you can do is let yourself sink.

Maybe that was why he decided to head back into the city after letting Alice go. Everywhere was just quicksand, and trying to do anything was just going to drag him deeper and deeper into the unknown. There was no sense in doing anything, if all it was going to do was speed up the process.

So, he sat there, as still as a statue, as he thanked his waitress for his drink. He downed his soda; he told pun jokes; he tried to forget. Despite his attempts to keep up appearances, it was clear to anyone who bothered that he was not fully enjoying himself. Something Desco and his Prinnies noticed immediately upon entering the Emporium, the sunlight rapturing from the outside briefly illuminating the skeleton before everything was shrouded in the world of neon and darkness.
