The woman stumbled forward and fell to her knees, what was left of her ruined leg and more than a dozen hydralysk needles screaming out waves of agony that even she couldn’t ignore. She stammered and hunched her back, the quills that stuck from almost every square inch of exposed flesh accentuating the defeated silhouette of her body. Wincing, her fingers curled into claws and she strained against the sovereignty of pain, tears intermingling with the blood that dribbled down from her face and onto her lap.
Her eyes cracked open and sucked in a breath through her grimace, followed by a few hyperventilations. The plodding of leather on stone drew her gaze upward to see Taloc, holding his crushed ribs in one hand and his blade in the other. The sun caught the flat of the sword as he lifted it high overhead, casting a highlight over her before it fell.
Instinct overtook her limbs and she yanked the haft of the hammer up, steel meeting steel with a screech. Ire’s elegantly crafted edge struggled against the scarred driveshaft, and their owner’s eyes met with wordless determination.
Gritting her teeth, the woman’s corded arm flexed and she forced herself up onto one foot, the assassin to taking a half-step backward. Her other hand found the throttle, the idle churning of the engine rumbling to life in a series of cacophonous peals. With a grunt, she twisted her weapon and tossed the sword to the side. The head of the hammer followed shortly after and struck the ground, a ploom of flame engulfing the two combatants and lobbing them in opposite directions with smoke trailing after.
The bandit skittered to a stop at the edge of the ring, the hammer flying from her grip and landing near the wall. She wobbled for a moment before catching her balance, smog still rolling off of her scorched armor and hair.
Snarling she snatched a fistful of spines from her face and ripped them free, her eyes scanning the blood-drenched arena as she tossed them aside. Her eyes narrowed, and a smile snuck its way onto her battle-worn cheeks.
She pressed her fingers into her bloated lips and a piercing whistle shrieked out over the ring. Kerrigan afforded the woman a glance as she traded blows with Makoto, and a cruel smirk mirrored her partner’s. It only took the length of a thought for her to complete her part of the scheme.
The stunned zergling’s legs scrabbled wildly before it managed to clamber onto its feet. It shook its head and looked to the mangled combatant in the corner of the ring, then began a loping gallop off the edge and into loam below. Blades of grass kicked up behind it as it sprinted with the zeal of a newborn puppy, blood and drool dribbling from its hissing, fangless mouth.
The nameless warrior reached out as it scampered past and snatched one of the tall stalks that shot from its back, whipping behind it for a moment before she managed to swing her functioning leg over its back. “Good boy!” she cackled as it slid around the corner, clawed feet clambering and sending massive hunks of dirt in every direction.
Lightning cracked and another bolt flashed over the woman’s shoulder as they blitzed around the periphery of the stone square, but she ignored the barrage as she unslung her rifle from her shoulder and turned it to the side. A heavy metal fist slammed down on the power cell and a tiny white grid flashed over its surface.
Taloc swept in behind the outmatched Queen, Woe ready to finish the job it had so nearly completed only a few moments before. His senses twanged as the sound of metal clattered on the floor beside him, his eyes going wide when he saw the rays of red energy swelling through the cracks in the laser that had landed at his feet.
Kerrigan’s laughter echoed through the minds of the two men as she bounded away from them, aided by a telekinetic thrust. The grievously wounded hitman managed to take two steps before the weapon detonated, casting both he and his ally into the air in an explosive wall of red.
The zergling’s feet dug into the tiles as it leapt upwards and the bandit pressed off of it when it reached the apogee of its vault. “Kerri!” she shouted, and a potent embrace of psychic force enveloped her, flinging her ever higher into the sky.
The three figures dangled in the heavens, roiling crimson churning below them, arcs of plasma snapping and crackling, the hot midday sun cutting through thick layers of vapor and dust, casting them in shadow. Her outstretched hands found both of their necks and clamped down in a near-unbreakable vice as they hurtled towards the ground with ever more pressing speed.
Woe slipped under her armor and sank to the hilt, a super-charged electrical punch crushing into her ribs. As the turf rushed up towards them she whispered, “See you on the other side,” and darkness filled her vision.
