Dark on the Waters [Dark Data]
#82
Jutting spikes, cloaked in a dense, noxious fog offered little of a sign of the threat on the ground; the explosive landmines that were primed and ready to eviscerate anyone unfortunate enough to fail at this game of high-stakes hop-scotch. Cole, thankfully, was ready for such an occasion. Tying a torn piece of cloth from his clothes around his mouth to try and limit the amount of the noxious gas he would inhale, he began to nimbly jump from spike to spike, using his strength and speed to maintain his momentum across the large gaps in-between each pillar. The fog made it difficult to judge the distances between each massive spike. He attempted to maintain his direction towards Nebula Space utilizing his liberator aide, which blipped quietly, yet more rapidly the closer he got to his objective.

It took several minutes to cross the lethal terrain, eventually using Protoman’s makeshift flare through the fog to make it the rest of the way, almost slipping a few times but quickly recovering by using a Seele Schneider as a climbing claw to keep himself anchored. The sword, however, flickered as he got closer.

Fortunately, he had enough time to make it out of the fog and overhead a Protoman standing alone and fending off a swarm of a veritable array of Darklings pouring forth from the entrance to the many smoke-spewing factories beyond that denoted Nebula Space. While in mid-air, he transformed his Seele Schneider into its bullet form, it still flickering but retaining its vibrantly oscillating aura, loaded it into a hastily conjured magnum, and fired at the closest enemy, outright annihilating one of the Darklings as he adroitly landed behind Protoman, both guns at the ready.

“You should stop flying off ahead like that. I’ve got your back, just focus on getting us through.” Cole commented, taking aim and firing away before he could get a response from the red robot. He ignored the oppressive feeling of Nebula Space bearing down on them, instead electing to rapidly deal with the encroaching swarm in an adaptive manner. They were the same Darklings they had been dealing with up to now, so he knew best where to hit them or at least how to fend them off.

Two corrupted crewmen, a corsair, and three of the makeshift machines from before charged at the Quincy, but were met with an accurate hail of gunfire through the head and torso to cut them down before they could even get close enough to mob him. The machines simply rebuilt themselves, but as they did so, Cole charged ahead at them and unleashed a quick sequence of kicks and punches to send them flying back, using quick, short bursts of speed to add momentum to his swings to do so. For a couple of them, he noticed that he outright bored a hole through them.

Well that’s intriguing… Fumetsu noted quietly.

“I guess Fukaku’s training did more than I thought.” Cole replied, readying his stance again to keep up the defense.

Protoman, he noted, was having a slightly easier time cutting his way through the Darklings ahead of them, cutting through them with his sword with finesse, slicing them apart before or even as they rebuild themselves and simply swatting away the accompanying crewmen. It was a challenge for Cole to keep up while maintaining effective cover fire.

After a time, he reverted to using his Seele Schneider, sacrificing one of his magnums to more easily saw his way through the Darklings in a similar manner to Protoman.

Quote:Cole links up with Protoman as the two proceed to weave a path of destruction towards the entrance and the factories ahead of them.
