[Round 2 - C] Ahana & Eternity vs Ok Dongja & Marisa
#6
My breaths are laboured. The left side of my chest has caved in, and I’m sure I've punctured a lung. Much of my flesh is torn and ragged. I may not bleed, but even so, I know that I’m dying. In my rabid frenzy, however, I care nothing for such details. I hiss at the vile lump. The taste of its putrid, rotting blood still fouls my mouth.

It ignores me entirely, looking up instead. I follow its gaze, and see Larva & Marisa locked in an aerial duel. For a tiny moment, some forgotten part of me stirs, cheering the little fairy on as she conquers her fear and fights her foe. That thought vanishes almost the instant it arrives, as a powerful pang of hunger tears through my gut. Larva looks delicious.

The two fliers pause, glancing down at Dongja as he raises a hand. Although I have no clue what he’s about to do, I’m sure it isn’t anything good. Without thinking, I leap forwards and bat my wings, taking to the air.

Bawl-Sah!” the monster roars, as I spin to face him, thrusting myself into the path of his shot, despite not understanding why I’m doing so.

Bahaal!” bone-white fire rushes outwards from my body. I can’t see, but I do hear it when his magic clashes with mine, producing a crack like the world itself breaking open.

The searing pain of my wounds swiftly vanishes as the Restorations rebuild my ruined body. Ordinarily it would feel refreshing. In this form, it’s more like being doused in ice water. I shiver. The flames vanish, and I cast an appraising eye over myself. My skin is still unhealthily pale, but I’m whole and unbloodied once more.

My clothes are unaffected by the healing magic, of course, and so remain tattered rags which leave little to the imagination. Dimly, it occurs to me that I should be embarrassed by this, though I can’t quite remember why. I doubt it matters, though. Blood is what matters. Blood is all that matters.

Hardly sparing a glance for the rotting boy below, I swirl to face my partner. I recognise the expression on her face. Gratitude. She opens her mouth to speak. I lunge. She looks shocked now, but manages to raise her arms in time. She catches my wrists, screams my name as she struggles to hold me back.

I want blood. I need blood. Real blood, not that vile ichor that runs through Dongja’s veins.

I catch a glimpse of something behind her, and for some reason, I feel the need to get Larva out of the way. To... keep her safe? Without knowing why I’m doing it, I spin us around and kick her in the chest hard enough to knock her back a couple metres. A moment later, a glass bottle shatters against my back and I shriek as its contents detonate, scorching my skin and throwing me forwards.

I want blood. But... I have this strange urge to protect the butterfly child. I just can’t remember why I want to. Not her blood, then. Other blood. I turn and dash up towards the blonde.

The broom-rider just smiles. Sitting there smugly, letting me come.

She must have some trick up her sleeve. It’s obvious.

So I halt. She doubtless thinks I’m just a mindless animal. But actually, my curse has bestowed me with a few new belongings. I can use tools too. I pull one of them out from beneath my sash and hold it out towards the witch. Is it just my imagination, or do her eyes glint greedily at the sight of it?

“Spell Card of Destiny,” I intone, my voice strangely soft and sibilant in this feral form. Oddly, I get the impression that Marisa already knows what the card is, without having to be told, “Miserable Fate!

Enormous chains of red light burst into existence and her broom bolts forwards, rapidly zigging and zagging between my projectiles. She cries out when one of them crashes into her, badly bashing her left arm, which falls limp at her side. I feel a gust of wind as she speeds past me.

My wings flap furiously as I turn to face her again. She’s stopped moving. She grins at me, holding something up between two fingers. A little piece of card. I realise that my own hand is empty. I groan quietly.

From somewhere below, I hear the loud retort of Dongja’s weapon firing multiple times, and Eternity cries out. For some reason, I feel a sudden twinge of fear for her.

Marisa pays the others no heed, “Now, what was that spell called again? Miserable Fate?

My own chains burst forth from the stolen card, racing treacherously towards me in great, curving arcs. I’m not like Marisa, though. I’m not a frail little thing who needs to weave and dodge between attacks. I roar, then pound the air with my wings and dart forwards, straight at her, desperate to sink my fangs into her neck, ignoring the chains completely.

This is going to hurt.

Aesthetics Note
I should have mentioned this in the previous post, but forgot: Ahana now has a pair of bat wings like Remilia’s (see their roster for pictures), and her fire magic is now off-white in colour, rather than gold.
These changes are purely aesthetic in nature and do not in any way make her more effective in combat.
