About the Author: Why this character?
#46
So, I'm not just gonna do this for my Omniverse characters, but for the whole nine yards, all the RP characters I tend to use in more than one roleplay.

Mick Rory(Omniverse - 2016)

"Why do they call you people the heat? I'M THE HEAT!"

I'm gonna be honest here...I'm not sure what captivates me about Mick so much that he ended up being my major muse for the Omniverse, and potentially the one that ends up being the one to lead me to victory town, AKA that point where I unlock an alt. He was really chosen on a whim, I have to admit. Choices on a whim normally don't end well. But here we are now, with Mick Rory still heading somewhat strong. This was the first site where I ever tried roleplaying as Mick Rory regularly, too. And it's gone well so far.

James Locke(Various - 2016)

"You want me to be afraid. But I'm not. You want me to fear you. But I don't. In my line of work...Fear is not an option."

James is, technically speaking, my first OC that isn't just a block of featureless cheese. That might be why he still captivates me to this day. He started out with said block of featureless cheese. Then you get the chainsaw. You don't have to use a chainsaw. It's just more fun that way.

His first variation was just, in essential form, a daydream. The Dreamer title wasn't even applied to him yet. "Nightmares" composed of..Well, gonna be honest, prototype Nightmares were just various media characters...Were attacking. He got his signature katanas Zephyr and Pearl, and various abilities, being able to claim "Moduses" based off of the Nightmares he defeats, and then use them with some weird high-tech watch. The one that made it past development ended up becoming his signature lategame power, the Quantum modus, after the entire modus thing was placed on the chopping block.

His second variation was more in-depth. He gained a name, James Locke. A world, not just the real world with an army of pop culture references ready to murder him. A personality, that even changes over time in-universe, going from a wisecracking action movie hero wannabe to a character with a dark, and, I'm gonna be honest, kind of edgelord personality, within 6 months. This is where most of the changes I kept take place. The Nightmares were refined into their current state(mostly), and his Modus abilities were completely removed.

His third variation, was one that was more of an over-time thing. I found him a bit underpowered, in a world full of demonic creatures ready to kill anything that moves. So, I started with something simple - I prevented him from being completely disarmed, giving him the ability to summon and desummon his weaponry at will. Then, I found him still underpowered. So, I looked back at my Modus notes, to bring back one particular Modus as his power. The one that captivated me most was Quantum - time manipulation abilities. I gave him those, with the caveat that they had to be discovered over a long course of time before they could be used.

Then, I looked back at my villain notes and realized something; the big bad had a full-on one-winged angel mode, that James wouldn't be able to beat alone. So, I gave him a last resort ability; Avatar of Hope. It transforms him into, well, an avatar of the Hope aspect of the emotional spectrum. I still beat myself up about stealing a DC Comics concept, but whatever.

At the same time as all that, I gave him two supporting characters; Anne Locke, his sister, who has, thus far, just sat on their lazy butt and played video games(much like me). We might actually be seeing them soon. The other...Was Surayel Alfur.

Surayel Alfur/Al'Sfur K'Tar (2016)

"Everything I do...Everything I say...It's all for the greater good. And isn't that what we're doing here in the first place?"

Surayel is an interesting concept. From the beginning, I knew I wanted him to play a mentor role with James. James had a wide range of abilities, and he knew how to use absolutely none of them. So, I wrote up an outline for Surayel, as a Dream with no strong combat abilities of his own(just a very weak glowing red revolver), and a high scientific mind. Nicknamed him the Doctor of Dreams. Then, I realized...James' powers are limited. He won't be needed forever. And what will Surayel do then?

So, I wrote more. Gave him a Nightmare identity...Al'Sfur K'Tar...Made it to where the supposed Doctor of Dreams, was really the Knight of Nightmares. Gave him a hidden tachyon device, allowing him to temporarily replicate Quantum abilities. And gave him a "greater good" mindset, having him know of the cruelty presented across the Earth, and deciding to make sure, under Nightmare rule, that all stops. But he'd need to drain James' Quantum abilities - which need to be unleashed first - due to his own tachyon device being inefficient. And that's what Surayel...Al'Sfur...Is now.

And that's pretty much it.
