Call of the Rebellion (Imperial Disarray)
#7
As he walks - about halfway to the door - he is interrupted by a call from Cassie. He raises his hand up to the earpiece.

"It's Cassie." Cassie says. "How's your progress?"

"I'm hoping this is the last of 'em. Some of the guards were gang members, most were mercenaries. How did the Mattit gang gather this much firepower?"

"They're one of the bigger gangs, and one of the only ones to go down to Tier 7 regularly." Cassie says, sounding somewhat angry as she mentions their constant visits to Tier 7.

"Makes sense, I guess..." the arsonist states. "Kinda got shot in the elbow on the way here, my Heat Gun ran out of ammo...I'm not sure I'd be able to handle many more fights."

"Where are you right now?" the Rebel asks. "Depending on where you are, I can tell you what you have left to do. I have access to the floor plans of the building."

"I'm with the machines." the Rogue responds.

"Well, uh...The power source, believe it or not, is right in the next room." Cassie says. Mick begins to walk as the rebel recruiter continues to speak. "You should hopefully not have much to worry about. Do you know if anyone's stationed there?"

"A group of five, only one was much of a challenge, the others went running either after the one died or beforehand. They showed up a bit early when the ONE merc I had let live at that point sounded the alarm."

"Everything should be fine, then."

"Great."

"Well, what are you talking to me for? Get to the power room! Don't waste time talking to me!" Cassie then hangs up, as Mick continues to walk, lowering his hand from the ear piece. Deciding he'll have nothing else to do, he decides to take the time to think about how he got this far...

So, let me recount how I got this far...Body count might catch the Empire's attention...Got quite a few lasting scars from how I approached things...Maybe a few times I might have made mistakes? I dunno. The only one I can think of is letting that flamethrower-carrying fuck live.

He sighs.

There was also Darklocke...I have all the reason to believe he'll be back, ten times more aggressive than before. If I would have kept more ammo on hand, he probably wouldn't have gotten away. And as TV has taught me, it's a horrible idea to let guys like him get away.

He then notes a door. Unlike most of them he's seen so far, this one seems metal...More imposing. Also unlike the others, there's no handle; there's a button on the side, which presumably activates the door.

"This ought to be the power room..." Mick says to no-one in particular. "If I head in here...What happens next could be good or bad, depending...OH WELL."

He presses the button, the door sliding upwards to allow the arsonist into the room. The power source appears to be a big, metal device...But no "off" button is present.

"Damnit." the arsonist curses, not even trying to restrain himself as he sees the power room won't be as easy as he though it would be. "No off button. What am I supposed to do?"

Deciding it would be the best option, he decides to call Cassie.

"Hello?" Mick asks.

"Mick. How's things going?" Cassie questions.

"I have no idea how to turn off the power room. No off switch, by the looks of things."

"Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you..." the Rebel says. "Things are a bit more complicated than that. I can guide you through it..."

"Alright..." the Rogue responds.

"I suggest you get a screwdriver ready. You're gonna have to use it to open the two panels on the bottom." Cassie says. "The security system they set in place is fairly complex. If you go for the wires immediately, you'll just cause a core meltdown. And the result wouldn't be pretty."

"Got it." Mick says. He starts to focus on summoning a screwdriver, letting go of the headset for a moment. The Omnilium emerges, and forms into his desired tool. He then crouches down to the two panels, opening the two with the screwdrivers. One has three wires, and the other has...Some buttons with symbols on them. He then drops the screwdriver and calls Cassie again.

"First off, the symbol buttons." the arsonist says. "There's an X...A Q with a line on both sides...A screwdriver-looking thing...Something that looks kinda like a stick figure with a line through it's head...And a red circle."

"Okay. There's a 5-digit code you need to input here." Mallis states. "First the stick figure...Then the symmetrical Q...Then two screwdrivers...Then the Q again. Press the red circle to submit it."

"Got it." Mick says, removing his hand from the headset. He then follows the instructions, pressing the respective buttons. A light turns on near the wires, signifying that it's their turn. Cassie calls again, and Mick immediately answers.

"Okay...Now, the wires." the Rebel explains. "This part's gonna be tricky...All I know is, the middle one does absolutely nothing at all, and the left one may or may not be connected to a coffee machine elsewhere in the building. You have a 50-50 chance here if you pick right or left."

"That's...An odd way of doing it." Mick says. "...I guess I'll go with...I'm not sure..."

Removing his hand from the headset, he prepares to make the choice...
