As the four of them stood on opposite sides of the room, Carmelita fiddled with the suitcase she held.
She recognised the man in the armour from the cafeteria back at Syntech, and she could assume the other woman was Fiara, the woman Arturia had been looking for. Deciding that introductions were in order she flashed her badge and introduced herself to them.
“Let’s get introductions out of the way. I am Inspector Fox-Cooper and my companion here is... goes by the title Saber. I believe we all flew here in the same plane.”
The young woman, dressed in a fairly modern style with some sort of wrist mounted weapon on each arm, looked at the hulking armoured figure by her side for a moment before turning and giving a slight inclination of the head in greeting.
“I am Fiara, and this-”
“Thank you, but I will... introduce myself,” came a deep, phlegmy voice. “I am Okor, chosen of... Nurgle. What purpose brings... you to the mine if you are... fleeing the blessed?”
Carmelita raised an eyebrow but passed over the comment, instead lifting the briefcase she held by her side.
“We fought a being that adapted to our every attempt to subdue it, and it was previously a scientist looking into the virus. We have here two doses of an inoculation we hope to use to cure the island, or at least return them to their senses long enough for treatment and aid to be brought here.”
The inspector paused as a thought struck her, and she turned to Arturia.
“We don’t know if the inoculation works.”
The king of knights turned towards her, puzzled.
“Of course not, we have only two doses, and both are too precious to lose.”
“But if Fiara, a secondary, is at risk from the virus, we could offer her the chance to-”
“No, we can’t afford to-”
“Hello! I’m right here!” Fiara shouted. “What are you two talking about?”
Carmelita turned back to the two across the room.
“We don’t know if the inoculation works, and you are the most at risk here from the disease, since you are a secondary instead of a prime. If you want to come with us, I’d ask you to use one of the syringes with care.”
Fiara nodded and pursed her lips in thought. As she did so, Arturia gave a small huff and looked at Okor, who was shaking gore off his weapons.
“What have you seen down in the mines?” she asked, eyeing the splatter as it coated the nearby wall. “I take it there are opponents to face down there as well?”
