[4-14] The Town
#33
After their first hallway, the two women came face-to-face with a set of double doors. The little windows on the doors had been covered with what seemed to be paint of some kind, and the push bars were locked together with a heavy metal chain. Sprawled on one of the doors was the clear message. "No Hope."

Carmelita walked up and pushed at the doors, which moved a little before the grip of the locked chain held them tight. "Not too sturdy." She stated as she turned to Amber. "Probably blast through it."

"Is there a point? That message seems pretty clear," the faunus remarked as her shoulders sagged.

"We've come too far to give up," Carmelita barked. "Now are you going to gun down this door or am I going to have the fun?" After a few spurts from Razoback, the chain fell to the ground and on the doors lurched forward. Carmelita pushed ahead, knocking the door open as she stepped into a room that had a surprising degree of light given the general disarray of the hospital above. A quick glimpse revealed that it was some type of large lounge, but before either of the ladies could get a better look, they heard the thump of boots from across the room.

"You made a mistake," a male voice replied, drawing the two women to the other side of the nondescript room. A young man in a bloodstained lab coat took a few lurching steps from a door on the other side of the lounge. The word 'killer' popped into the heads of Amber and Carmelita, but the fox quickly noticed that the man's blood was his own. Whoever the doctor or scientist was, he'd been shot several times in the gut and left side, and from the way in which he lurched, it was obvious that he was not long for this world.

"Who are you?" Carmelita asked, unsure whether the dying person was a threat or not.

"Researcher..." the man suddenly paused and tilted his sweat-drench face. His brow furrowed in thought for a brief moment before he shook his head and smacked a hand against his forehead. "Can't... can't find my name." He rasped as he took one step forward too many and lost his balance. As he crashed against what seemed to be a bar, the two women moved to help him. "No!" He screamed as they both noticed something moving beneath the back of his lab coat.

"What is it?" One of the two shouted as the man lurched away from the bar. In one of his hands, he held what seemed to a broken pipe from underneath the sink of the wet bar.

As the man spoke, his voice gradually descended into a growl. "Can only fight it... so long. Only... so long. They call to me."

A feral, animal noise tore forth from the man's bloody maw as both women heard the audible snap of bones breaking beneath his skin. The bones shattered and reshaped themselves as the scientist grew before them, his head lolling back and forth as his flesh started to darken to a shade of gray. What seemed to be bone spurts jutted out from the man's back and arms as what humanity he may have retained eroded away in front of the two primes.

Razorback whirred to life in Amber's hands as the monster started to stalk toward them.

Quote:As always, fight or flight.

The thing you fight will continue to rapidly evolve/adapt as you fight it, gradually becoming even less human and more like a screeching, otherworldly monstrosity.
