[4-14] The Town
#25
It was early in the dawn when Arturia had left the highrise, informing Carmelita of her decision and the plan she had. With some rations and water for herself, the knight had set out on a journey to the Hope upon the map.

The knight couldn’t bear the stillness in the atmosphere, it made her uneasy and restless. Each passing second the gnawing doubt bashed at the back of her mind, pushing her to move, to find Fiara before it would be too late. It frustrated the noblewoman more than anything in recent memory, the ghosts of those who’d served under her coming back to haunt her each night. It was the reason why she had left their group to scout the location alone. Because she couldn’t stay put, she couldn’t bring herself to endure the slow pace they were progressing with.

Each moment that took longer than it would by herself, was a moment that she could have used to find Fiara. Such was the knight’s internal struggle. She knew how abandoning their makeshift team would likely doom them, yet she knew that by not abandoning them, she could be dooming Fiara. And as it was, Arturia felt responsible for both groups.

The knight crept forward within the town, as she navigated the labyrinth of streets based on the aerial view of the city she’d burned into her retinas earlier, yet she didn’t exactly proceed with the same sort of slowness that they’d done before. Her movement was determined filled with efficiency of navigating upon battlefields. She held the veiled Excalibur within her grasp, faithful that should trouble come, she and her sword would be capable of handling it.. And in the worst case scenario, she would at least lead them away from Carmelita and the others.

The city in itself was something that the King of Knights found eerie, in a way reminding her of the hill where she’d met her end; It was silent, and there was nothing that seemed alive in the least; no bustling of a city, simply an uncomfortable silence.
What had happened here, was the thought lingering across the scape of her mind. This town, it had not been dead for all that long. Judging by the corpses she’d come across so far, they’d met their demise recently. A few weeks ago at at the very longest. If it had been any longer, the flesh would’ve been completely devoured, leaving naught but the bones behind.

It’d taken her an hour to traverse the silent streets, catching further evidence towards the fact, that this ghost town, wasn’t inhabited by ghosts in the very recent past. But even as she pondered in her cautious state of mind, the knight arrived to her intended destination.
