Okay, got some stuff to talk about.
First of all, got a Scythe on radar today. Was one footprint away, mega hype, and then it voiped.

I do have some observations to make.
First, I think I've surmised the problem of low spawn rates in the boonies. It's not actually a matter of location, rather, distance traveled from your starting position.
Remember, one of the main motivators of this game is to try and get people moving, so I think you can get plenty of spawns outside of urban areas, you just have to get walking.
I tested it thusly: I left point A, my house, with no pokemon on radar. As usual, as I took my dog for a walk, critters started popping up, which I had always assumed was because I was heading in the direction of town.
However, as an experiment, when I got to our turnaround point, I shut the game off and started it again. By that point I had a full radar, so rebooting, they should still be there, right?
No.
My radar was blank again. Where there had been nine pokemon, now there were none (lost track of two Oddish :.( ). The clincher, however, is when I started walking back home, out of the city. As I got closer to home, my backyard, which had been blank, was now full of pokemon.
So! If you're pokeng around somewhere and nothing is showing up, just start moving. I usually find that within a hundred yards of walking I start getting spawns.
NUMBER TWO
Have a sidewalk near your house?
Like to walk up and down it for a casual hunt?
Have wifi?
TURN THAT SHIT OFF.
I find that any time the game loses connection for even of a fraction of a second (say, when your phone switches between 4G and Wifi as you walk past your house.) your radar will freeze.
All the polkamobs you were tracking still show up in your radar, but you'll suddenly find that the mans stop shuffling around in your radar grid (based on distance) no matter how much you walk or how much you violate private property.
Your are in pokelimbo.
Under the illusion that you're playing, when really, you are making no progress. Pokestops and gyms and everything else still work, but your radar is essentilly frozen.
Reboot. Turn off wifi. Start walking.
