[2-5] The Carnival
#4
End of Round 2

Gin and Remilia continued through the forest.  They'd both fallen silent fifteen minutes earlier, and while Gin couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched through the fog, he kept his thoughts to himself.

"I think there's a clearing or something up ahead," Remilia whispered as she started to move a little quicker through the brush.  Gin, not wanting to get separated from the girl, moved to match her pace.  When he reached where she was standing, he found himself just as dumbstruck as his new companion.

There wasn't a simple clearing in front of them.  They were staring at the aged remains of a traveling carnival, complete with rusted, beaten-down rides, weathered tents, and various concession stands filled with expired food.  Never one to get too caught up in the moment, Remilia stepped out of the forest and onto the cobblestone, her eyes scanning the decrepit rides that made up the carnival's little skyline.

Gin looked back into the pseudo-safety of the forest before turning to watch the girl continue into the carnival.  When he swung his focus back into the trees, he swore he caught a smiling face half-concealed behind some shrubs, but when he jerked his gaze to the spot, there was nothing but fog.

"Carnival it is," the boy whispered as he stepped out from the bushes and went to catch up with Remilia.
