For the most part, as long as it could either enhance the story or reveal something about the characters or something like that, than it's typically okay to do something like, say, pull out Sans' brother's scarf. I mean, it's not THAT much different from them having almost all of the Star Pieces.
Of course, if it's something like, say, them knowing about your scientific background when you haven't even told ANYBODY in the Omniverse about it is something that would most likely require permission from the writer for said character in order to do, as that is often giant metagaming and a huge no-no regardless of where it is committed.
