If there was any intention to bring this little bitch in alive, it died as a flash flood of anger washed over me and my sight turned red. I fired the shotgun without a thought, but the spot where the child was lacked the blood splatter of a eight year old hit with buckshot and instead only broken concrete laid there. A quick glance to my mapper showed a red blip where the she had disappeared to, although her constant babble revealed her location well enough. Everything she said pounded a nail of hatred into my head, my thoughts all focused into a single goal to obliterate the striped sweater wearing motherfucker.
"Shut up!" I yelled back, I was not in any position to come up with anything clever "You don't know who I am or what I've done! You're just some fucking shithead kid!" Yes, I swore at a child. Go fuck yourself too.
A spent shotgun shell flew to the side as I pumped a fresh one in and fired again. But the little brat was faster that I thought, as she seemed to almost flash away from it. A growl rose in my voice as my attacks missed, my fists gripped over the stock of the gun as my knuckles turned white. My shots kept going wide as she weaved closer, my aim probably not helped by the worry that I would hit a civilian and had to curb my usual run and gun tactic.
"I thought you wound find this easy, Flynn" The child taunted "After all, it wouldn't be any harder than gunning down the men and women who looked up to you"
And, I can tell you loyal reader, did I really want to shoot her.
"I'm going to shove that knife down your throat!" I roared, but if threats meant anything to the young creature (I wasn't even sure she'd counted as human at that point) it was only as a joke. I reached back to pull out my rocket launcher to even out this dodging bullshit, but Smiley had other plans. Her weapon glowed a hateful red as she charged something, and with a slash across the air several waves of red energy surfed towards me. But Hell has made me very good at dodging projectiles and I weaved through each one with barely a inch to spare between them. It felt like old times.
Smiley on the other hand finally had another expression as she was shocked to see me dodge her attack, and I took that opening to fire a rocket at the ground where she stood. She tried to run, but the blast engulfed her and sent her stumbling across the pavement.
"How do you like me now?" I taunted as another shot loaded itself into the tube. But when the smoke clear she had disappeared again "Damn it, where are you?" I glanced around me, but my mapper told me before I saw her: that littler red dot behind me.
I turned and immediately pointed my weapon down at the damn happy face, only to immediately realize my mistake: at this range, the blast radius would kill both of us, something the child knew as she took her long knife and rammed it through the a slit in my armor, sharp steel punched through my skin and stomach lining. The tyke stronger than she looked, but when I countered with a balled fist into her face, she fell back and kept her distance from there.
We looked at each other, bloodied and hungry for a fight. But she smiled on, and so did I as I imagined tearing her apart.
"If I'm going to break you in half, I'd at least want to know what name to give to the monition" I joked as I reached over for my heavy assault rifle. She smile, whipping blood dripping from her nose on her sleeve.
And yet, a worm of dread in my gut told me that I was in a dangerous dance . A niggling that this was not just some psycho. I steeled myself, and readied for the next attack.
