Carmelita swore, diving for her weapon, and Marcus took the opportunity to unleash several punches on her. She bounced off the metal of a container, getting way too close a look at the electrical burns that were peeling back to reveal machinery beneath.
She coughed a bit, clearing her lungs before grinning grimly.
“The only thing I’ve killed deliberately was a hateful machine. Don’t make me put you down too.”
As she tried to keep out of his reach, her sensitive muzzle caught the scent of smoke. She abandoned the combat to scramble up the side of a nearby container, the man in hot pursuit. At the top she blinked, looking across at the electrical fire that was beginning to consume the equipment and boxes. Overhead, the cargo container the man had moved earlier swayed dangerously, the cable holding it up stretching in the heat.
Her momentary distraction ended when what felt like a sledgehammer crashed into her back, sending her flying from the top of the container and crashing into a pile of budget desk chair flatpacks. She groaned and raised her eyes to see her opponent give a satisfied smirk at finally landing one of his more devastating punches.
She stumbled to her feet, the flames crackling behind her and the suspended container swaying dangerously from the ceiling, boxes strewn left and right.
“If nothing else, I’m getting him for arson and trespassing, I swear.”
Carmelita dodged as the man leapt down from the container, sparks fading as the effects of the shock pistol faded slowly. A siren cut through the air as she darted backwards, the sprinklers raining down droplets of water that made the ground beneath their feet treacherous to handle.
Carmelita took this new development in stride. Using her shock pistol in close quarters would now be idiotic, the water a grand way to shock herself, and so called on her close quarters combat training, planting her feet and holstering her weapon.
The two were both injured, the cyborg through damage to his circuitry and the vixen through several blunt force impacts, but both were still prepared for this fight. Marcus made a face, striding directly for Carmelita with violence in his eyes. She stared back, raising an eyebrow impassively.
She countered the first attack by dodging, letting the momentum of the man’s swing overextend past her before she added to his momentum with a kick. The water beneath their feet added a few feet to their sliding. The next few punches were repeats on this theme, her waiting for him to telegraph an attack and then dodging it and adding a light hit in. Almost as an afterthought, she pressed a digit to her collar, Bentley’s cloak beginning to make her fade from view.
There was an expression of irritation that crossed Marcus’s face a moment before Carmelita reappeared, sweeping his legs out from under him and dropping him to the floor. She activated her cloak again, dodging Marcus’s attempts to grab her.
The second time she tried to attack was not so successful. The cyborg’s eyes flickered down at the trail of ripples left in the pooling water, winding back and delivering another devastating punch that sent her flying back. Frowning at a bloodstain seeping through her jacket, Carmelita pulled herself from the wet floor and began firing her shock pistol once more.
