Mock Fight: Warehouse Showdown
#5
It was time, Carmelita thought, to change her approach.

The man had grown frustrated with her cloaking, clearly, and had taken to using the controls to pick up and drop the crates and boxes around them. Fortunately there wasn’t a lack of room to maneuver up on the containers, nor was the activity particularly accurate, but that also meant that several times she had to duck to avoid a low flying piece of crockery or non-stick frying pan that had burst with its brethren from a nearby box. If she didn’t engage him properly, it was likely the contents of the warehouse would be ruined, and that would not look good for her PR.

She dropped back down into the maze between the containers, running around and keeping a reasonable distance from the man. Carmelita wanted a more open space, where she wouldn't get trapped between the containers, but this would have to do.

The buzz and crackle of the shots of the shock pistol was all the warning Marcus had before he felt the electricity tingling across his shoulders. Carmelita took a moment from firing to give a grim wave at the man.

“Stop destroying property and give yourself up, or I’ll be forced to take you down!” she cried.

“You have no idea who you’re dealing with!” came the reply. Carmelita couldn’t refute that: she didn’t have a clue who this guy was. As the man tried to manipulate the controls of the crane to move a container towards her, she shot a charged shot into the control box with pinpoint accuracy, sparks flying and a puff of smoke rising from the controller.

She braced herself as the man turned and ran at her. For a brief moment she’d thought that the barrage was doing nothing, but there was a slight stagger in the man’s gait and she noticed him stub his toecap. It was working, albeit slowly. Instead of running, Carmelita began calmly stepping backwards, continuing to fire shot after shot into the oncoming muscle. As the effects built up, the static electricity could be seen sparking over the man’s skin, his steps slowing from a sprint to a run.

There was a whistle as he threw a punch, but Carmelita deflected it past her head with her off-hand. She tried to push the man off balance, but it was like pushing against a brick wall, and she got grabbed for her trouble. Lashing out with a kick loosened the hold, but as she rolled away she received a hefty boot to her back for her trouble. She loosed another shot with her shock pistol before the man took another swing, catching her shoulder and spinning her around.

The man got the opportunity to land a solid blow, and the force of it sent her to the floor. She rolled over to see him pulling back his fist, clearly winding up for a much harder hit than the ones she’d been subjected to so far. Carmelita wasn’t going to give him the opportunity. She scrambled backwards with three limbs, firing with her other and landing more shots against the man, keeping the static electricity present and slowing his movements. He cancelled his blow to chase after her, and at that point she rolled back to her feet.

There was a moment of unsteadiness as Carmelita felt the bruises she’d taken from his early punches, but she felt sure that her opponent was feeling just as bad from her shock pistol’s shots.
