The man had batted her aside like she weighed nothing, and Carmelita rolled to her feet as the opponent leapt from the gantry down into the maze of boxes.
“Well, looks like we get to do this the hard way,” she muttered, picking her badge off the grating and drawing her shock pistol.
Leaping the railing as her fugitive had before her, she landed lightly on the top of the containers, watching as he took flight into the narrow passageways that led between the hulks of metal. She pressed a digit to her collar again, fading from view.
She stalked him as he ran, leaping from container top to container top as he made his way through the crates below. He was definitely stronger than she was, but she was faster, and she soon caught up with him. Breaking her cloak, she fired the first shot, a ball of electricity landing crackling on the skin of the man below.
There was a moment where the man paused, and she thought she might have paralysed him with her first shot, but then he turned his head, eye glinting.
“Mierda…” Carmelita swore, as she began unloading shot after shot down at the man. He was tough, a lot tougher than her usual criminals, and he fought through the usual shakes and slowed movement with ease. She stood, dumbfounded, right until the man punched the crate she was standing on.
The metal box shifted beneath her, and caught by surprise she fell over the side. In a moment the man was on her, punching, kicking and stabbing before she had a chance to recover. A heavy blow sent her careening down the passage, stumbling for a moment before she raised her shock pistol and fired a charged shot directly into the man. She smirked, expecting the man to cry out upon losing his senses.
With a laugh, the man charged straight at her. She realised she had no chance to dodge, and simply turned and fled, hoping to turn on her collar’s cloak in time to retreat and try another approach.
She turned a corner just in time to miss the savage punch that left a sizeable dent in the container it hit. Leaping over a pile of crates, she checked over her shoulder to see the man blink sight back into his eyes and stare at her with a piercing glare.
Cloak reactivated, she faded from view, and she scrambled up a pile of boxes back onto the container tops. The sound of falling crates led the man right below her, and she readied herself for another round.
