The savannah night air was instantly recognisable against her muzzle as she tumbled from the portal. On the one hand, Carmelita found this reassuring, harking back to the trip she’d taken to the Wild West and the sands of Arabia. On the other, that meant that her cloak had broken.
Sure enough, the stormtrooper who was resting his feet on his desk started in alarm, scrambling to grab his blaster to shoot at the faint blur that had tumbled from the portal. Carmelita wasted no time in running for cover as FENRIS mechs burst through behind her, sniffing the air with their chemical sensors and prepping their tasers. Her cloak quickly re-established its integrity, and she began sprinting away into the darkness, scrambling over the wire fence and away from the commotion behind her.
After half an hour of running, the sounds of pursuit died off. Carmelita dropped to her knees in relief, panting heavily. After several minutes spent simply lying there from exhaustion, she switched off the cloak and climbed a tree, settling into the branches in time to see the sun begin to rise on the horizon. Making sure she was invisible from below, she dozed off in the nook of the Eucalyptus, her first Omniverse nap beginning.
