All around him, people dove forward, forcing themselves on despite the exhaustion that all of them were no doubt feeling. Shouts mixed with the din of battle, and the monster remained still, studying allies and enemy alike. He was all out of tricks, it seemed. With a form so limited, there wasn’t much he could do to catch the Doomguy off guard anymore. Which meant it was time for a breath of fresh air.
“Let’s switch things up.” Somerled spoke to what seemed like no one in particular, and within moments, his very being began to tear itself apart. Pain finally flared up in the storm spirit’s body as it dissolved at the seams, mist swirling and reforming, until he was no longer looking out through his own eyes, now absent of his senses.
Why do humans always have to be so stubborn...
The glowing figure of the sun spirit now occupied the spot his other half had been just moments ago. Sonny’s eyes scanned over the skirmishing group quickly. The haphazard charging of what he could consider his “allies” did them equal amounts of harm and good. Mr. Taggart was being pushed to the limit avoiding as much of what was thrown at him as he could, but at the same time, everyone was hitting each other...
A white blur shot towards the bright spirit, a bone crashing into his chest as if on some cosmic cue, bouncing off of him harmlessly after being slowed down by the intense pressure around him.
We’re doing a fantastic job blowing ourselves up too.
Sonny began drawing in a large, slow breath. His radiance slowly grew more brilliant, the powerful light driving away the shadows cast by the sun above and replacing them with its own. Without another moment of hesitation, the sun spirit hurled himself forward.
The usual chaos of battle faded for a brief moment as the deadly, blinding beacon forced his way into the fray. Everyone paused in their tracks, if not driven a pace back entirely from the painful light. Even the Doomguy faltered for a brief moment, taken aback by the appearance of what could be thought of as a second sun. A dull reverberation shook Sonny’s body, his only remaining fist slipping past his foe’s attempt at a block and slamming into his visor. Shattering glass accompanied the myriad of curses shouted by the soldier.
Taggart hit the ground with a heavy thud, and instantly his hands darted around, scrambling for another gun. The sun spirit fell to his knees, throwing another punch at the downed soldier. A dull shock rattled his body, his strike hitting nothing but concrete, swept aside easily by his foe, and in an instant, a cold, metal barrel pressed against his forehead.
BANG
Sonny’s head snapped back, his bright glow dimming as the projectile tore through his head. The world spun violently, and suddenly the spirit found himself staring into a blue and white blur. Slowly, the clouds above came back into focus, his minor heatstroke subsiding. He sat up quickly, noting that the Doomguy was already up and back to trying to chainsaw the zombie.
Love it when people assume they’ve killed you.
In a moment, he was back up and on his feet, making his way towards the scuffle in no particular hurry. Thankfully, everyone was too preoccupied to notice the dead man walking. His steps stopped a small ways away from the fight, and slowly, heat and light intensified around him again.
Well, here we go again.
