Doomguy Vs The World (IC thread)
#17
Inside the toxic green cloud the giant zombieman unleashed, I was blind. My helmet sealed itself when it detected the poison, but that didn't stop some of it to force its way into my lungs, and my body responded with sharp heaves and coughs as my body tried to desperately expel it. Between that and the zero visibility, I was forced to fire in random and sporadic burst in the hope the enemy would keep back before it cleared. I flatted myself close to the ground, hard concrete pressed against my wounds as I watched for Grundy to charge agai . He never came, a momentary blessing that turned into a stone in my stomach as I wondered: "Where did he go?"

A question that was answered by the big green man himself as I heard metal above me rended and pounded by an unrelenting force, and the failure of the powerful motors of the military helicopter. The cloud cleared slightly as the massive bulk of steel and aluminum plummeted towards where I laid, and his scream spelled out my doom.

I barely had a second to roll to one side before the vehicle landed on top of me, several thousand pounds of tempered metal didn't so much break as pulverized my left shoulder and half of my rib cage, a near miss of my heart kept me from me from dying instantly. A small miracle of the worst kind, as that did not stop the unbearable pain nor ignored the fact that I was still pinned to the floor with a broken helicopter as I watched the angry zombie on top thrash away at me. The nosecone collapsed, not meant to take this kind of abuse, and it curved around the rest of my torso and most of my limbs. Each thrown punch from the corpse was like a earthquake, with the epicenter focused on my chest. The floor under me buckled, and shards of glass from the cockpit rained down on my head. A jagged hard edge pressed against my neck, each slam threatened to crush my airpipe and snap my neck. If I didn't die from the internal bleeding it would have been through the world's slowest decapitation.

But I held the will to live. I couldn't reach the weapons pressed into my back, but the shotguns holstered at my hip I could still reach. The wooden barrel of the super shotgun may as well have been lead with all the weight put down upon it and and the weakness that crawled across my limbs. But I ripped it away and leveled it up towards the zombie's chest with one last big smile.

"Go fuck yourself"

Grundy held up his toaster oven sized fist, ready to let down on last hammer blow, when I pulled both triggers back and unleashed buckshot hell. The recoil of the beautifully crafted weapon ripped it from my hand, but it did the job as the zombie's torso exploded into green sludge. He was forced upwards by the amount of lead that hit him, enough that his head got too close to the still spinning rotor blades. The sound of a butcher's knife hitting meat rang out as the massive monster's scalp was shaved too close, more green goo flew across the roof and he was set off to the side. It relieved some weight, but it was of little consequence as I laid there unable to move most of my body and what could was too weak to.

My haggard breath took in a large gulp of air in reaction to the lessened weight, and as a reward I felt my throat fill with blood. I coughed the liquid up, the thick lifeforce covered the inside of my helmet and blinded me. Weakly, I grabbed the top of my helmet with my free hand and threw it off, just so I could see my lost moments under the lowered sun. What I saw only salted the wounds.

The power armored marine stood a fair distance away, his rifle aimed at me. Although worse for wear, he still stood and eyed me through where the lenses of his helmet once where. I envied him standing. Sans had bolted off towards the portal, the explosives I attached to it got his attention. Although he seemed to have plenty of time to glance hatefully at me. I couldn't blame him. I didn't even know where Blondy went after he exploded, if he was anywhere at all other than in pieces, and despite everything that happened to the zombie I heard movement to my left, like a wounded beast limping away.

I could have ended it all if I could reach anything, but I had dropped the detonator when I was hit by the military vehicle. Even my pistol was trapped under my left side when a single shot would have set them off, and the one one I could reach is now out of ammo. I stared off to the side, a cool breeze across my now exposed face the only comfort to be had.

"Is this how you thought this was going to end?" The distorted voice of the other marine asked. I wasn't sure if he was trying to be friendly now that I wasn't a threat, or sincerely curious, but I had to look up into the darkening sky as I thought about it. Maybe not exactly like this, but I knew it would be against peers rather than a swarm of mooks that would finally put me down. Although perhaps I wished that I could have killed a few more demons in the process.

"Yes"

"Then why didn't you stop!?" he asked for a bit more force. It almost seemed like an accusation "There's no point to throw your life away so meaninglessly!"

I thought about that too. I closed my eyes for a moment as I remembered that moment. Phobos base, inside the hanger. As I heard the screams of my fellow soldiers, tore to shreds and burned to a heap by what they found inside as I was left to secure our way out. I opened my eyes and looked slightly to my left, as I examined the bodies of the men inside the ruined husk of the helicopter. If they didn't die at impact, Grundy crushing blows certainly did. Men I knew, once again dead where I lived.

"Have you ever found yourself alone, those who you loved and fought with dead around you? Do you know the burden on your shoulders as the lone survivor? Always running through your mind how you could have saved them?" I asked, and the marine seemed stunned. He looked away from me, unable to give an immediate response. Sans looked back as well when I said that. There was still so much anger in him, and yet I could see a twinge of something in his face. They didn't need to answer, I could see it in their eyes.

"Then you there was no other way this was going to end" I reached down and patted down the objects at the belt, empty ammo pouches and torn medic bags.

Until they crossed a particular black one, a slight jingle with a finger revealed that the contents were still intact. My mind reeled, the slow acceptance of the end ripped down by a single last desperate drive. Who needed guns? Guns were for pussies. All I needed where my fists.

"What's your name?" I asked to the marine

"...Tartaros"

"I'm Do-" I thought better of it this time. If I was to die here, it was rather I was remembered right "Flynn Taggart" I stared at Sans, who did not seem to expect that I would address him directly "What I did...before..." Did I kill a man or a demon? Perhaps I didn't want to know, less I tore myself apart. "He didn't deserve it. But I won't ask for forgiveness. What happened happened, and we can't change that."

"...I can't change that, but I'll live" The boney security guard finally responded, his attention turned to me rather than what I was doing "You'll be burning in Hell"

"Been there, done that" I laughed, a bit more blood sprayed on the crumpled concrete.

"Then someone stick a fork in you, you're done"

The laugh grew harder, my partly crushed chest flared in pain but it didn't stop me. I ripped my hand from the black medical bag, the syringe filled with Bezerk victoriously held above me. I heard the click from Tartaros as his rifle announced that he was out of ammo too. The needle plunged into my neck, and I felt the sludge injected into my veins as pushed the plunger down.

A blood soaked, toothy grin was all I offered.

"I am not dead yet!"

The pain disappeared across my body, a numb memory of only moment before, while my mind burned like a raging inferno. My muscles tensed as they were flooded with fuel, and my eyes were obscured in red rage. I balled my fist and what little movement I could muster was thrown into a punch into the underside of lump of metal that trapped me. The blow sent it teetering off of me, the weight gone momentarily as it threatened to come back down. Until I lifted both boots up and with my entire body pushed into it and sent it to capsized away from me, the skeleton forced to jump away as he was caught off guard by my sudden strength. In the same movement I rolled back to my feet, my hands clutched around brass knuckles and my head full of mad.

"Did I ever ask for your mercy!?" My drug addled mind produced before I charged in with rage renewed.

The other marine charged in, his weapon now replaced with his chainsword in one hand and a hand axe in the other. We didn't so much run to as we did bound at each other, pure will kept my broken body in motion. He swung across my torso, in the hope to finish me in a single cleave. I swung an arm counter to it, the whirling teeth battered away as I hit it at the side with my elbow. An otherwise painful move sent his arm flying back  and I swung in with the other fist. A crack rang out as the knuckle duster left an imprint into his chest plate and he was sent back in totally surprise at it.

"Here comes the night train! Chugga chugga chugga boogie!" I raved as I ran towards my target and swung again. He turned to the side and deflected it of his over-sized shoulder pad, but I still put a long crack in it as the blow connected "It's the last call, and all drinks are on me!"

The chainsword whirled its deadly teeth as it was brought down on my head to tear my forehead into hamburger, only for me to sidestep the weapon to his left. But the other marine was no fool, as he swung back and clocked me across the side with the blunt side and followed through as his hatchet logged itself in my shoulder. I felt the bone around the eye socket cave in from the blow, and the hefty blade dug into my collar bone, but the blood and the pain seemed like far off things compared to the threat in front of me. My hand gripped around the neck of his armor and pulled him down to my level, his axe still in me, as I held my other arm back and started to repeatedly smash my fist into his helmet. His already ruined grill has now dismantled and if his eye pieces weren't already broken they would have been as the blows kept up. He had his chainsword at my stomach to try and tear me in half, but this time I was ready. I grabbed onto his fist gripped around the handle and held it back, the teeth only inches away from me, until I lifted him by his own armor and threw him to the ground. With his other arm still in my hand, I stomped on the other marines and held him down as I pulled on his arm with the intent to rip it from his torso. Servos whined as I twisted them in a way they weren't designed as I felt flesh start to compromise.

At least until several long femur bones pieced through my chest. I may not have noticed, my body so dulled by the chemicals in my veins, if I didn't see them stick out my armor. I glanced from their origin to see the bone white Sans with his hand up and pointed at me. I was content to just put one last kick to the side of the space marine before I bounded off after the skeleton.

He didn't hold still as I chased after him, he almost seemed to teleport as I got close, but there was only so much roof to run across. Waves of ribs flew across the floor to stop me, but I weaved through them as adrenaline pushed me on even with blood dripped across my sight. He was on on the edge as I neared my gasp, desperation in his eyes.

So he jumped off.

"For a skeleton, he was a spineless wimp!" I laughed, happy to see an enemy gone. A short lived victory, as I felt something smashed across the back of my exposed head. My vision blurred from the direct blow and I only managed to dodge another one by an unpredictable spin around to see Blondy was behind me. He wielded an assault rifle like a club, blood splattered on the stock from where he hit me. I let out a roar and readied another punch, which he tired to block with his weapon. Without any effect, unfortunately for him, as the fist collided with the body of the weapon and splintered it into two pieces. He responded with a hook of his own, electric power ran through my body and I felt my body spam and shrink back from the heavy blow.

But I didn't go down.

"Ooh, you have a nice hit. I like it, I like it. Let me show you mine" I returned the attack with my own, a solid blow across his jaw. There was no style to this fight, only a slugfest between the two of us as we tried to survive each blow that was landed on us and throw our own. Eventually he had a clever idea, as he grabbed the handle of the hatchet in my armor and ripped it out, a sharp bolt of pain when it left, and he was ready to cleave me in two. But I was still faster, and I caught a uppercut into his stomach. His torso (and the rest of him) went across the roof to elsewhere, but I couldn't see where as  I was distracted by a chuckle behind me.

There I saw the biggest smile on the skull of a face of Sans, atop one of giant goat skull and floated above me.

"Motherfuck-" I couldn't even finish the world before it fired another massive beam at me, magical energy tore up where I stood only a second ago. It caught be in the arm and leg as I tried to flee and I felt a burn that almost seemed to sear my entire body as it hit, but I still stood against it, but without ammo I wasn't going to hit him.

I needed a gun. I needed a BIG gun. I needed to end this. I glanced over to the fallen and turned over helicopter that laid close to the portal. The fifty cal. I rushed over to it, my body forced through will alone. In front of me the hulk of dead flesh rose, Grundy still lived,  the skull that was left of his head with a bit of brain poking out. As I neared I swiped the detonator from the crater I was once trapped in, not about to lose it all on a gamble

I pulled the chainsaw out, the bent blade would have one last hurrah as I pulled the string, a wretched sound sputtered from the engine as it force itself alive. Images ran through my head. Break them, smash them. Burn, Rip. Tear. Rip and tear, rip and tear-

"RIP AND TEAR! RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS! YOU ARE HUGE! THAT MEANS YOU HAVE HUGE GUTS! RIP AND TEAR!"
