The little robot pulled the trigger and watched the bullet cleave through empty air.
“Say wha—” Before the sentence could be finished, a skeletal fist crashed down against Claptrap’s skull. Another hand closed around one of his scrawny limbs and swung him up into the air. At the first bash against the floor, the robot let out a melodramatic gurgling noise.
With Gamzio barreling down on him, the Harbinger twisted and hurtled the flailing robot at the horned man-creature that had replaced Strazio Rockwell. A crisp ‘motherfucker’ could be heard before the pair was knocked backwards to the ground, leaving the burning gestalt with enough time to turn and intercept Agent Kanda. The two fusions locked up near the rubble of the fountain. The suit-clad fighter tried to wriggle free, but the other gestalt clutched onto his forearms. “Inevitable.”
Agent Kanda was knocked backwards by a quick thrust, but the professional-looking fusion had the wherewithal to dive free from the burst of sparkling energy that would have torn clean through him. With a natural grace, the agent rolled up to his feet and turned to confront his adversary, but before he could formulate a means to use his speed for advantage, a great shadow fell over him.
“What?” Senses tickled in the fusion’s mind as he spun and drew his two swords—the katana and the chidori—from his waist. He held them up in time to intercept a downward swipe from the Rathian, and while it seemed that the agent could have batted the creature aside, a second beam of marvelous energy crashed against his back. While he held his hands high, his knees buckled, and a second sweeping attack sent him skittering across the floor of the Nexus.
To its left, the Harbinger heard the thud of steel upon flesh. It turned quickly to see Gamzio tied up with the plague marine, and a moment later, the fusion of clown and rage vessel could feel the ethereal flames tickling at the back of his neck.
“Motherfucker trying to get up on me!” Gamzio managed to shove Okor off balance and turned toward the Harbinger. The creature’s flames flashed green as it lifted its hands and summoned a hard light deuce club into each skeletal fist. “Oh, you gonna motherfucking do me like that?”
Viridian flames faded into red as the first clubbing blow crashed against Gamzio’s cheek. The next one connected with the underside of his chin, causing his teeth to clink together and his neck to snap back for a moment. “Motherfuck.” The gestalt growled as he tried to bring his own weapons to bear on his opponent. In that moment, Okor’s bolter smashed against the back of Gamzio’s skull. Despite the ringing in his head, the double teamed fusion dropped down and used the momentum from the impact to roll out from in-between his adversaries.
“You wanna play that way?” Gamzio shouted as purple bolts of electricity started to dance across his muscled form. “Let’s dance, motherfucker!” He threw his head back as the static build up erupted into a veritable blanket of electricity across his body. Falling back a few steps, he dropped his clubs and grinned as he lifted his hands. As he moved, bolts of crackling electricity snaked up his limbs and coalesced within his trembling palms. When his fingers snapped into tight fists, the masses of lightning surged outward and took the shape of two scintillating spears.
Opting out of something witty or insulting, Gamzio simply took a solid step forward and flung the pair of spears at his intended target. The Harbinger held up a fist, and there was a flash of red and yellow as a hard light shield shined to life to intercept the projectiles. There was a clap of thunder as the spear-shaped bolts of lightning exploded against the Spartan Shield. On the other end of the throw, Gamzio scowled as the dust settled to reveal the opaque shield of light. Behind the Grecian bulwark, red and green flames burned gently.
The horned fusion watched, the shield dropped to the ground and ceased to exist. As it fell away from its owner, Gamzio’s scowl faded away when he saw the all-too familiar coat of electricity dancing across the skeletal body of the Harbinger. With a sudden movement, the burning gestalt threw out a hand and released a crackling spear that slammed hard into his adversary’s shoulder.
Harbinger turned sharply at the sound of the bolter’s report. Never one to excel at evasion, Okor took lumbering steps back as he tried to put a round through the skull of Agent Kanda, who lashed out against him with a quick succession of katana swings.
Lifting its hand, Harbinger willed a hard light bolter into its hand and leveled its shot. A moment later, the agent stifled a scream as the rad-infused bolt exploded against the small of his back and half-buried a handful of plagued shrapnel into his flesh. With the speedy gestalt paused momentarily, Okor swung with the full force of his pestilence-riddled bulk.
With Gamzio still reeling, the Harbinger saw a moment to close the book on the fusion of samurai and rogue program. As the skeletal fusion stepped forward, he felt a soft weight crash into his back leg with just enough force for him to notice it.
“Where you goin?!” A high-pitched computer voice shouted as the fusion felt metal fingers graze across his leg. “You scared?”
With a skull for a face, the Harbinger had no means to subtly convey emotions, but as he lifted the leg to stare at the little robot, Claptrap swore that the flames that blanketed the monster seemed to swell. Reaching down to his side, the would-be synthetic hero fumbled for his gun, but before he could bring it to bear, the jian crashed against his ‘skull,’ further denting and splintering the mobile machine’s metal casing.
“Th-this is…” the robot’s eye flickered as his talking started to glitch. “A l-l-long day.”
Planting his foot against Claptrap’s face, Harbinger shoved the little robot off his leg. Before the machine had a chance to crash against the ground, a swift kick sent him flailing into the backdrop.
“Motherrrrfuuuuckerrrrrrr…”
The Habringer turned at the sound of the sing-songy insult and recoiled as a sparkling fist came at his face. Latching a hand around Gamzio’s wrist, the burning gestalt managed to redirect his adversary’s palm just before it opened up and released a thunderous burst of white energy.
“Get fucked!” Gamzio growled in frustration as he threw back his head and screamed. An instant later, a shockwave burst out from around the fusion, plucking the Harbinger up into the air and throwing it backwards toward the ruins of the Fountain. Pleased with himself, the horned fusion sneered and managed to make a few steps forward before the full weight of the bloodied Rathian crashed down onto him.
Rising to its feet, the Harbinger summoned a jian and a lightsaber, and without skipping a beat, it spun and blocked against the two swords of Agent Kanda. Both fusions stared down the other as their weapons grated and hissed against one another over their heads.
