Nexus Battle Royale — Threat Elimination Protocol (PvP)
#19
The man’s suit blurred, his body leaving behind a warping after image as he dodged away from the cataract of dragon’s flame. The agent came into focus at the Harbinger’s flank, his fist already plowing into the abberation’s mandible with a sweeping haymaker.

The Harbinger’s head veered to the side and, for the first time in the battle, it seemed to lose dominance.

Agent Kanda pushed his momentary advantage, a flurry of crisp, precise punches flowing over the burning titan. Each landed with a satisfying PAP, wisps of colorful energy flaring out with every strike, the fires briefly clinging to his knuckles as he drew them back. The blistering combination was finished when the warrior chambered and fired a stiff sidekick aimed at the monster’s blackened temple.

As the kick flew through the air, a surge of fear rushed through the agent’s chest. Something was wrong.

The black leather heel of the dress shoe stopped millimeters from its target. The Harbinger’s aura fluttered between green and yellow, its boney fingers crushing down on the agents ankle. ”You’re fast,” it admitted, a distant amusement in its voice. A crackling noise echoed from the agents captured leg, eliciting a grunt of pain. ”But that’s all you are.”

Tearing the man off of his remaining foot, the Harbinger whipped him through the air in a vicious arc, slamming his head into the ground like an egg into the sidewalk. The man’s body went limp after the first impact, but the beast didn’t stop. Again and again Agent Kanda was lashed down, bits of white flying up as his body slowly beat a crater into the solid stone.

”You cling to such pathetic ideals,” it boomed, it’s words emphasized by flesh wetly slapping over the splintered earth. ”Good? Evil?” it chuckled mirthlessly, ”What a sad philosophy.” When the throttling finally relented, the man lay still, but somehow continued breathing. ”Anything you fear, anything that threatens to change your precious status-quo is ‘evil.’” A heavy heel stomped down on the bloody heap below. ”Change must be terrifying to those that have no control over it.”

“You bring…” Agent Kanda coughed, a splat error of blood splashing out onto his chin. “… destruction.”

A deep, resonating laughter echoed over the Nexus, the chorus of baleful voices cackling in unison. “And you are so innocent? How quick you were to attack what you didn't understand.” The creature gazed down upon the agent,  “We only wanted to further our own goals,” it wavered to yellow, “to quell chaos,” then purple, “to gain power,” green, “to sate our hunger,” and finally red, “to relish in glorious combat.” The beings visage twisted back to an even mixture. “You saw fit to attack us for nothing more than our ambition, for nothing more than our might.”

Harbinger lifted its foot away, bent down and grabbed the agent by his tailored collar, scooping him up and holding him aloft. ”But we are not looking for your sympathy,” it purred, ”only to ensure that you understand what fool you've been.” Slowly a long, green blade formed in his hand, and the tip pressed into the warrior’s belly. ”Do you understand now?” the monster asked and inched its weapon forward, the tip disappearing into his gut.

Agent Smith sneered, crimson running down his brow and dripping off if his chin. “Perfectly.”

The man’s foot swung up and struck the underside of the Harbinger’s head, knocking it back. It’s grip did not relent, even as the battered man struggled against it, even as more flailing, uneven strikes met their target. Desperate for release, the dysfunctional program threw his leg over the monster’s arm, using all of his strength to twist the creature into a standing armbar.

”Yes, good,” the Harbinger rumbled, ”Fight.”

The two flicked out of sight, reappearing at the fountain. The entangled opponents stood over the limp bodies of Sasuke and Victor, their blood mingling with the water. ”Just like they did.”

The Harbinger muscled through the hold and used its other hand to grab his belt. Grunting ethereally, Harbinger hefted the agent upwards, his legs slipping and finding themselves on either shoulder. With the agent up in the air, essentially sitting backwards on the monster's shoulders, the skeletal being slung him forward and slammed the man downwards into to rim of the fountain with a spine-shattering powerbomb. The fountain split, and a deluge of re-tinted water rushed out over the Harbinger’s feet and bent legs. When the creature let go of its victim and stood, the three bodies flopped out of the broken basin like drowned rats returning with the tide.

"Now die like they died," the emerald tip of the jian thrust downward, as thirty for blood as its master.

A white-hot explosion threw the Harbinger from its feet, boiling the tiles that once supported the being. The jian instantly crumbled as the monster's focus faded, its edge left unsated. The third fusion of the fight stood at Agent Kanda’s side, furiously heaving as rage-fueled magicks coursed through his veins.

“I’ve never felt a mother-fucking thing like it,” Gamzee gasped, jolts of euphoria rushing through him with every new surge of anger. “This power!” he yelled, seemingly to himself. “This mother-fucking POWER!” The juggalo giggled darkly, a sinister tone coursing just below the surface.

“POWER!?” a distance voice boomed from above. The fused mage looked up to see the Harbinger’s myriad tones twisting around it wildly as dark and horrible tempest, threatening to rip the sky itself apart. The vortex of fire condensed upon itself until it was no larger than a billiard ball, hanging precariously off the tip of a single, skeletal finger. “You don’t know the meaning of the word.”

The mote flashed down, and the new opponent’s eyes opened wide. Gamzio scooped up Agent Kanda under his arm and sprinted as hard and fast as his legs could carry him, the shimmering dot of pure energy rushing down to the earth as they ran.

The horizon flashed white, and for a moment, there was only light and suffering.

When finally the brightness faded, the combatants found themselves huddled in a smoldering pile several hundred feet from where the fountain had been. Overhead loomed a shadow of a being, its blaze cutting through the smoke as a candle cuts through darkness.

“Do you not see, yet?” it bellowed, “How are you yet so blind to the conclusion of this conflict?”

Agent Kanda shook his head stiffly, and hacked out a glob of congealed blood. He looked up to his savior, his momentary ally, and they each nodded to each other. It was a quick moment, but a powerful one. “For now,” it seemed to say in its silence.

Just as they sealed their alliance, everything went black. A thick miasma of absolute darkness rolled out in every direction.

For a moment, all was still. There were no more voices, no more attacks. The two men took a few fumbling steps, their hands outstretched, searching for anything to inform them of their surroundings. Then, in the bleakness, a choir of voices whispered, the hot breath only inches from their ear.

“It is your blindness that will kill you.”
