The bar was unique at best, to get to the liquor counter we had to travel through a long man-made tunnel that was out of place from the historic nature of this compound. Mugshots, political rants, and racial slurs in neon spray paint paved the way through the dark passage, which was illuminated by a groovy black light. I could hear the harsh sounds of beating drums, mixed with deep bass undertones which made me feel restless. As we approached closer the sound grew more intense. Burnt tobacco combined with a faint smell of stale vomit pungently filled my nostrils. This place was definitely the trashy dive bar I was looking for, and it was someplace where I could have a little mischief.
For a second I was lost in time and space, the world changed back, back in time, back to the only world I knew. It was the silhouette of him walking through the murkiness and the sin. It was his face I saw that was searching for the other side, leading the way to the fun house we once called home. I became hypnotized by the glow of the black light reflecting off the chicken head’s blonde hair, like a lighthouse beacon. Time slowed, the music faded away the flashing lights made everything around me felt like it was moving frame by frame. He was here, walking ahead of me, with that permanently twisted smile filling his handsome, painted face. How long has it been? My heart was beating so fast I felt like I could roll over and die from a heart attack. I instinctively reached my hand out to his, mindlessly and without thought, my hand was only inches away before Jacket turned his head to smile at me. I broke out of my trance and in bewilderment I snatched my hand away in a panic. What came over me?
When we got to the opening of the tunnel it leads out to an open room, filled to capacity with drunk patrons. In the middle, was a bar in the shape of a horseshoe and had a dance floor in the middle. Neon light rope decorated the rim of the dance floor and was the backsplash for the liquor cabinet. When we finally made our way through the bustling group of humans and freaks we found 2 empty stools next to each other and made our claim. Once we were settled, the chicken head ordered some fruity lemon cocktail.
"So what's your name? I haven't introduced myself properly yet, my name is well Richard. If that's not good enough for you, I do like calling myself Jacket to leave my real identity unknown." The chicken head explained, barely audible in the mix of beats and cheerful voices.
This guy. He was cute. He slaughtered a group of soldiers like it was a Sunday stroll through the park but, came off calm, polite and collective. These were the psychos you have to look out for, the dudes that will snap when a girl rejects them without any notice. I don’t feel like this Richard will do anything crazy with me, but you never know, I might need to kill him someday, which was shitty. It was like having to put down your pitbull for biting the neighbor, even though it was you who trained it to protect you. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Richard, You can call me Quinn,” I said to the natural born killer, just as his drink arrived.
“More like an angel from heaven” the green tinted bartender interrupted with a wink. “What can I get you?” he asked while he leaned in close to me. So close I could almost smell the dick on his breath. I wanted nothing to do with this sickly toned, drink fetcher, but I got a flamboyant vibe off him, so his advances did not offend me.
“You can give me whisky, straight, and you might as well leave the bottle here,” I told him while throwing a wad of money I got from lockup on the counter in front of me. I could see a disapproving look cross over the feminine male bartender before he disappeared behind the bar.
“Wow, you don’t need to try to impress me Quinn” Jacket chuckled while he finished his drink with a sour look. “Those were ten times better in Miami he said plainly and shook his head back and forth.
“I am not looking to impress anyone, I am just looking to enjoy my first drink in ages. I can't help being naturally impressive.” Giggling wildly, I threw my leg over the over and caressed the fishnets covering them. It was amusing to watch a man go through the facial expressions during the time it takes the blood to rush to his heads. It was a good thing that this fine specimen was good entertainment.
We spent the next moments talking about his home full of beautiful beaches and even more beautiful woman, according to him, before my bottle arrived. It sounded like a nice place and it was hard to wrap my head around how and why we were taken from our worlds and dropped into this strange land.
The bottle was heaven to me and the dark liquid, coated my throat, which caused a warm, tingling sensation to ripple throughout my body. I must have looked like a real site because Jacket’s eyes never left me, maybe the alcohol was giving him some nerves because his vibe changed. It was like for the first time he really took a good look at me and the twinkle in his eye and the slight smirk of the smile made him look even more desirable. Maybe it was the lighting, maybe it was the booze or both, it did not matter, this guy was alright by my book.
