Nexus Battle Royale — Threat Elimination Protocol (PvP)
#10
The walking corpse and the white-haired man exchanged words as the Harbinger stood in silence.  At the sound of the warrior mentioning his rage, the gestalt stifled a laugh as it stepped passed the marine and stared at Strazio.  The red flames that wreathed the creature’s body faded to a dull green as the visage of the sorcerer Shang Tsung briefly flashed atop the blackened skull.

Your rage will fail you,” Harbinger responded as Strazio watched his own face glimmer over the fusion’s skull.  “We have already tasted of your soul, Strazio Rockwell…” In the blink of an eye, the monster was in front of its prey.  A swift blow cracked ribs and split apart the man’s skin, causing him to bite down on his lip to hold back a roar of pain.  “And we found it wanting.”  A second blow fell upon the side of the warrior’s cranium with enough force to dent his skull and rattle his brain.  With his equilibrium shattered, Strazio toppled toward the ground, but before he made it, a bony foot smashed into his side and sent him hurtling across the Nexus.

The Defender of Darkshire hit the white floor with a dull, shoulder-crunching thud and swore beneath his breath as his momentum carried several yards before he bumped against something firm.  Although his vision was blurred, the fallen man could see the burning green shape looming over him, and he saw the boney black fist as it closed around his throat.

When the Harbinger spoke, it was Strazio’s own voice resonated from the chorus of souls within the gestalt.  “You are only flesh.”  Bony fingers squeezed against the man’s skin as his tanned skin started to turn a nice shade of red.  “You will fail once more.”  A fist smashed into Strazio’s gut as the hand around his throat released its grip, and for the first time in under a minute, the white-haired fighter found himself sailing through the air like the unloved toy of an angry child.

Near the fountain, Yu Kanda winced as the newcomer crashed into the side of the fountain with enough force to splinter the stone structure.  A few yards away, Okor paused to look upon the fallen Defender.  Elsewhere, Jupiter and the others were likewise pulled toward the scene against the side of the Fountain of Infinity.

Despite the battering succession of wounds he’d absorbed, the man’s eyes still burned with the fury that had become his namesake.  “Th-that all you got?”  He sneered as blood bubbled down the corners of his mouth.  Planting his ensanguined fists onto the white ground of the Nexus, Strazio started to push up off the ground.  As he did, a curse formed upon his lips.  “I’m going to fuc—”

Before the words could leave his mouth, a beam of crackling yellow energy smashed into the warrior’s chest.  In an instant, the target of the attack was driven through the concrete rim of the fountain and vanished in the ensuing deluge of water.

With a grunt, Kanda planted his blade into the ground and forced himself to his feet.  The exorcist scowled as the monster casually strode toward him.  When the Harbinger approached the growing pool of water, the liquid started to hiss and shudder.  As it drew closer, the will of the gestalt turned the displaced water of the fountain into a slimy, green froth that burped up splashes of thick, grimy fluid.

“You exude corruption wherever you go,” Kanda growled as he readied himself for another attack against the damnable creature.  He dashed forward and swung his blade only to watch as the Harbinger grabbed it mid-swing and held it in place without a discernable amount of effort.

There was a flash of a visage across the skull of the Harbinger—a draconic visage that radiated honor and virtue before vanishing into the swirl of green flames.  “We will welcome you with open arms”  At that, the gestalt’s mandible dropped open as a stream of flames screamed out into the exorcist’s face.  The man howled in fury and pain as the dragon’s fire charred his flesh.  With a growl, Kanda reached for his belt and grabbed at his sword’s scabbard.  As his hands frantically clasped around it, a wave of electricity surged down the length of the sheath.

Swinging hard, the exorcist wrenched the scabbard from his belt and smashed it against the side of the Harbinger’s skull.  The sudden maneuver was enough to loosen the monster’s grip on the sword, and while he would have liked to press the fleeting moment of opportunity, Yu Kanda dove back into the half-drained pool of brackish water inside the defiled Fountain of Infinity.

From the left of the Harbinger, the young man—Ryner—tried to take advantage of the situation.  Before he could launch an offensive, the gestalt reached a hand out in his direction and leashed a blast of marvelous energy into his face and chest.  Further removed from the fountain, the plague marine was dealing with the battered duo of Victor and Orihime.  Yards removed from that seemingly personal battle, Sasuke Uchiha stirred from the ground and clenched at his chest.  The man seemed to be eying all his options, but before he could make up his mind, the decision was made for him.

Its body wreathed in a conflagration of red and yellow flames, the Harbinger came crashing down onto the small of the warrior’s back.  As he cried out, a spear made of amber light tore down through his shoulder and into the white ground underneath.

Holding out his other hand, the gestalt summoned a second hard-light spear and drove it down through his victim’s other shoulder.  With Sasuke going nowhere fast, the Harbinger knelt down until his fleshless visage was close enough that the ninja could feel the ethereal flames tickling the back of his neck.  As it spoke, the crimson hue faded away from the Harbinger, leaving behind the yellow light of fear.  “Cherish this fear.”  Purple and green overwhelmed the yellow flames as the Harbinger lifted its hands and summoned a scythe.  “Relinquish your soul to us.”

Before the reaper could collect his bounty, two men crashed against the gestalt in a fruitless effort to incapacitate it.  Despite the situation, Ryner and Jupiter clutched around the monster and tried with all their might to lift it from the ground.

Futile.”  The scythe morphed into a mighty, two-handed war hammer that immediately started to glow with sunlight.  Unsure of what was going on, the two men continued to struggle until the hammer released its burst of sunlight, rendering them both visually impaired.  Their grips went slack, and that was all the space the Harbinger needed to walk way from them, pivot, and swing the hammer at Ryner’s midsection.

The man screamed as he folded sideways over the hammer, which continued unimpeded until it drove Ryner straight into Jupiter, who was still clutching at his eyes.  Unable to see and awash in newfound agonies, the two fighters fell to the ground, half tangled in one another following the vicious, bone-shuddering impact.
