Nexus Battle Royale — Threat Elimination Protocol (PvP)
#8
As the battle raged around him, Smith could do nothing but look on in awe. The destroyer... this Harbinger. It was terrifying in its beauty. It's... purpose. Ever since it had first been born, this thing had entranced the program. It was fascinating... the combination of those four worthless beings had created this engine of perfection.

The others who had joined Smith's call for action had quickly fractured and divided along lines drawn by the Harbinger's arrival. Mr. Kanda had stepped forward to fight against it, strangely finding himself among the ranks of its, and quite recently HIS, targets. And, perhaps in response to his little speech, others joined him against the creature. Still others had more... sense. They fought alongside the titan, attacking the traitors.

And through it all, Smith simply watched. He did what programs were best at. He gathered data. Back and forth the combatants leapt, and fought, and defended... and Smith cataloged it all. Every strength and weakness laid bare before him in the heat of battle, every quirk and motivation that drove the warriors onward.

It continued to perplex the ex-Agent how Mr. Kanda and the others could continue to press on against such insurmountable odds. Smith could read no flaw in its attack pattern and no weakness in its form. As he had initially surmised... it was perfect. Yet, even in the face of such inevitability, the samurai and his spur-of-the-moment allies... they looked on as though they believed they could win.

Such was the folly of humanity. The Harbinger's power was absolute. To stand in the face of that was to invite only death. Humanity was flawed in this way. For all their vaunted intellect, they were creatures of emotion and foolishness. It was at once their greatest strength and their greatest weakness. It was hope. Futile and worthless.

So no... Smith would not join these rebels in battling the beast. Nor would he join the Harbinger in its destruction. Of course not... why would he even need to? The powerhouse seemed to have everything quite nicely in hand, alongside the others who had remained true to their purpose. It was a far better use of Smith's time and energy to observe. And to wait. He yet harbored resentment towards those who had killed him in Teucer's little game. And though it seemed the Harbinger had dealt with them already, it was far from a forgone conclusion. He'd seen the tricks these humans were able to play, the petty slights and delusions which they thought to be clever. Until the ex-Agent was sure his targets had been eliminated, he would wait on.

And perhaps he could find a weakness in the Harbinger. True... it was powerful beyond measure. True, it was also his ally. But IF it had a weakness Smith could exploit.. then perhaps he had a chance to turn it to HIS purpose. Perhaps he could become the Harbinger himself and ring in a proper new “Age.” The Age of Nothing.
