It had only been a matter of time before something would eventually stir, the giant carp streamer slung so unelegantly over one of the peeing statues.
Twice now it has been awoken so rudely, first by some empty figure in their own void, and then by the unwelcome noise of arguments.
Still, it hadn't moved, eyes simply deigning to roll across their cloth as it stared -- and napped -- through the fights.
The firecrackers near the end were a nice touch, though, and began to slowly wake the wind sock more with interest.
It was the blast near the fountain that finally urged the fish to move, and its body gave a sharp slap against the old bronze, propelling its body in a clean arc through the air that dropped it into the fountain bowl with a splash, the droplets pattering across its back.
By the time it had lifted its head out over the lip, it only just managed to catch sight of the many folks dispersing, speeding off into the distance.
Where were they going?
It squinted, barely able to see the structures so far away, and turned towards those that remained.
Their numbers had diminished, and, though it waited a short while, no more scuffles seemed to be breaking out.
Curious, it gave another push, sending itself sliding out of the bowl, and started flopping across the ground towards them.
More than halfway there it paused, resting, rolled over onto its stomach and stared, making no noise and perfectly oblivious as to whether or not its presence was even the tiniest bit noticeable.
