About how far do the effects reach from Sonny?

The heat is incredibly close range, it fades with distance from Sonny, and disappears after two meters. So someone standing two meters away from him would feel less heat than someone standing 1 meter away, and much less than someone basically touching him.
The light, on the other hand, doesn't fade, so it will always be uncomfortable to look at Sonny. However, being further away makes it easier to avert your eyes or block the view with your hand. This makes it so the effects can basically be avoided unless someone is within five meters of him. Any further, and they just have to remember not to look at the sun.
