Day 4 Evening

[The Spirit]

FACE TO FACE
A.J. CROWLEY, MAGUS vs. MINATO, KAKASHI

The two shinobi stalked carefully through the brush. Their wounds stung, but their training held fast and they stayed silent. The scent of blood stained the air, their prey was already injured. A devil and a devilish mage limped through the forest, leaving a trail of gore in their wake. A decisive strike was all that would be needed to finish off the duo. Minato signaled to Kakashi, an all out attack would be unleashed upon the unsuspecting quarry. The two called upon inner wells of power, the gate of opening and sage mode were activated in synchronicity.

“Watch out,” Magus exclaimed through his slashed throat.

Crowley turned in time to find himself face to face with a small silver pistol. Through sheer instinct he pulled the trigger on his noisemaker first. The two energy base weapons collided with a deafening thunderclap. Wubs and sassy bass lines ricocheted off the surrounding trees, creating a pulsing cacophony of obnoxious noise. Minato took no chance and rushed forward as Crowley’s weapon recharged. He tackled the devil to the ground and smacked him across the jaw with the business end of the pistol. Shattered porcelain erupted from Crowley’s injured maw.

The empowered scarecrow moved with inhuman speed, dashing across the battlefield in a raw display of agility. Magus barely had time to rev his saw before the ninja was upon him. Blow after blow rained down upon the injured man, rattling bones and bruising flesh each struck threatened to shatter his tenuous grasp on life. A punch to Magus’s throat aimed to seal the deal, but Kakashi found only a burst of smoke. Was it a substitution jutsu? No, something much more sinister the burst of purple energy left Magus concealed and disengaged from Kakashi. The scarecrow’s eyes scanned the battlefield, trying to spot his opponent before he could strike from the shadows.

The sound of whirring blades sent shivers down Kakashi’s spine and he exclaimed, “Minato behind you!”

The gnawing teeth tore into Minato’s back. He had moved in time to avoid the worst of it, but the blades still chewed into his flesh. Kakashi moved to intercept his teacher’s assailant and delivered a world-shaking punch to the back of Magus’s skull. The pointy-eared assailant fell to a knee and spilled an ocean of blood onto the earth. Minato crawled away from the scuffle, his sage mode running low on energy. The scarecrow raised his arm high, ready to bring finality to his dying foe. A chorus of auto-tuned angels roared across the battlefield and delivered Magus from his untimely demise. The vortex of noise sent Kakashi skidding across the battlefield, before coming to a painful stop against a tree. With a quick nod the two shinobi agreed to fall back and lick their wounds, death would come for Crowley and Magus another day.
