A Dame to Kill For.
#6
Dredd let out a low snarl as the first suspect was unceremoniously punted from the cab by the other Prime in the vehicle. It would be a joke to say that this sort of thing was surprising. The second the heat shows up, criminals always became their own worst enemies.

Well.

Maybe second worst.

Without any more hesitation than the clown Prime had shown, Dredd ripped his pursuit bike into a dive to follow Jacket, his trained eyes never leaving the perp's fluttering form. When the man finally fell squarely into another civillian vehicle and trained his firearm on the pilot, Dredd pulled back and flicked his sirens off. No use in provoking the psycho, at least not yet. High-speed, aerial chases were no places for civvies...which reminded him.

"Dispatch."

"Copy Judge."

"Send a probe after the cab from initial pursuit. Female suspect ejected male perp and hijacked vehicle. Keep a low profile. I wanna see where these two are going."

"Affirmative."

With that, Dredd gradually faded back into traffic, his internal HUD doing the honors of tracking the vehicle that Jacket had himself taken by force. As the panicked car wove itse way down through the Tiers, Dredd swallowed a hard lump of bile in his throat; not from fear, but disgust. They were going to Seven. That alone was enough to slap a public endangerment charge on the chicken-headed freak, if he hadn't already been pointing a submachine gun at the poor man's face.

"This is Law Zero Zero. Dispatch, perps heading for seven. Maintaining low profile pursuit."

"Uh..uh negative Judge. Tier seven isn't cleared for law enforcement services. You're gonna have to-"

"Over ruled! Emperor's directive, chapter nine, section six, heading six. Any civilian of the Emperor in direct threat of Prime hostility shall not be abandoned. I'm going in."

If Dispatch had any more brilliant counter arguments, they were lost along the wave of static that came crashing over Dredd's earpiece. Standard comms gave out after Tier Six. He would be on his own for this one...and yes, normally he would have agreed with Dispatch. This was a bad idea. Going into Tier Seven alone against an unknown threat with a hostage was not a solo operation. But this time...this time Dredd wasn't going just let them go. This was different from patrol, and these maniacs needed to die...which again, reminded him.

"Dredd's note to self, Additional charges for female suspect; civilian endangerment and attempted murder of a Prime."

As the hovercar finally whined its way down into the smoke-ridden depths, The Judge reached into his patrol swoop's utility compartment and wrapped an clipped on his helmet's air filter attachment. Switching his visor's display to thermal, it was easy to follow the escaping speeder through the thick smog while he kept to the shadows of the looming, decrepit factories and the rusted, mammoth pipes which sprung from every surface like the bones of this dead tier.

He'd observe for now, but if the civilians were put into further danger, he'd have to rush things.
