"Good dog," Jade murmured under her breath as Bec hopped into the seat beside her. He immediately began to lick the screen of one of Mister Colonel's nice computers, leaving a long, wet streak across it. "Best friend."
The chairs they were sitting in had wheels attached to them, and so Jade swung her feet back in forth under the desk, delighting in how the wheels spun and probably scraped the floor like anything. Once she had finished doing that, the girl with perpetual bedhead turned her attention to the computer's keys and login, tapping out a short sequence of numbers and letters for a password: SQUIDDLES413.
Bec leaned over her keyboard to see what she was doing, his fuzzy face and cold nose obscuring the keys from view as she typed. Jade frowned a little but continued to type unhindered, pausing to give a brief 'boop' to her faithful dog's snout.
Her amazing "cousin from Scandinavia" plan hadn't been the best course of action, and so Bec was now wearing a daisy-speckled sunhat and one of her grandpa's old floral-patterned button-ups. His new secret identity would have to be.... Something infinitely less fascinating to the student body. Now, if only she could figure out what...
Jade huffed, propping her elbow up on the table and leaning into it. There were a few people she could talk to, but they were all, like, total goofballs. Hacking into school computers on the first day of classes? Not the brightest idea! Still, Jade guessed it would probably be a good idea to avoid acting like the stereotypical brutish jock, and cutting in the lunch line wasn't really her style.
Who else was in this class, again? Connor, Demetri, girl with pink hair... Gosh, she couldn't wait 'til Phys. Ed so she could smash that thieving hacker boy's nose with a dodgeball. She still hadn't forgiven him for stealing her special edition solar system marbles in first grade.
