Doomguy Vs The World (IC thread)
#13
The skeleton's head throbbed, his vision was blurry, and all sound was replaced by an unbearable ringing. He laid on a pile of bullet casings mixed with blood, the explosion having sent him flying a few feet away. He blinked, feeling a twinge of pain above his left eye as red gel seeped through a fracture above his eye. He covered it up with his hand, looking towards the soldier on the other side of the pit. He witnessed Grundy leap across to face him before disappearing in a puff of smoke.

"-ans? Sa- u there?"

He let in a sharp intake of breath, looking down towards the end of his jacket. He slid his hand down towards the HT, slowly rolling onto his back. He pressed a small button, the static going silent as he spoke.

"i read ya, bill nye."

"-ood. The skies are clear, mostly. Most of t- -aff have been evacuated. We're just getting ready to pull out."

"and p- the people who came through the portal?"
The security guard said, staring at the HT with widened eyes and clenched hands.

"Still here, but don- -orry. They're with me,"
was the response.

The skeleton sighed, resting his head on the floor.

"can i... talk to one of them? preferably the skeleton?" He asked.

Silence. Unbearable silence.

"One moment."

The comedian closed his eyes, bringing the walkie-talkie to his chest. He mouthed a prayer to any god out there to let him hear his voice again. At least one last time. The world couldn't be that cruel as to refuse to give him that, right?

"SANS?" cried the HT, a loud, obnoxious shriek echoing from it alongside the sounds of a helicopter.

"paps!" he cried, letting loose a giant barrel of laughter. He felt like crying as a reinvigorating wave washed over him, "paps! oh my god, papy!!"

"OH MY GOD, INDEED BROTHER! HOW DID YOU GET HERE AHEAD OF US?! I LAST SAW YOU AT GRILLBY'S!!"

"i'll explain later, bro! just get on the helicopter with the bill nye guy."

"WHY?! I WANT TO SEE YOU, THOUGH!! IS SOMETHING GOING ON?!"

"no! it's just..." He said, desperation in his voice, "…trust me, okay? get on the chopper."

"OH....OKAY. I'LL SEE YOU LATER, SANS!! I'LL JUST HELP GET THIS GREEN HUMAN ONTO THE CHOPPER FOR THE EVACUATION!!!"

"got it, pa- wait, NO!!"

His hands instinctively squeezed the HT, his pupils as small as pin-pricks. He was speechless, his mind running in circles before screaming into the walkie-talkie, the lack of a response sending shivers down his spine.

He swiftly pushed himself off of the ground, almost slipping as he ran across the puddles of blood towards the strut bridge. He darted through the smoke, sprinting past the other guards as he charged through the door and up the stairs.

-----------------

The stairwell seemed to rise for miles as Sans bolted up it. He had tripped over his feet more than a few times, his legs feeling like lead and his body smelling of blood and sweat. Despite these setbacks, however, the skeleton moved faster and faster, his sights set on reaching the roof. As he drew closer to the top, a terrifying thought invaded his mind. One that he hoped beyond hope was just paranoia.

Shooting up a final set of stairs, he charged towards a large door, pushing it forward with all his might. He braced himself for what he would witness on the other side.

Sunlight blinded him for a few moments as he opened the door, squinting his as he looked around the environment. There was the vent cover he had removed earlier, and the metal booths the scientists used close to the large portal. His station was to the right of those booths, and helicopters soared through the sky, all flying away from the tower.

In the middle, close to the portal, laid Papyrus, clutching his chest. The green man was nowhere to be seen.

"no..no!" Sans whispered. He scampered forward, shouting out to Papyrus. The taller monster looked up, his visibly pained face replaced by a smile momentarily.

"BROTHER?" Papyrus murmured, his heightened voice evident despite an obvious struggle to breathe.

The guard slid down onto his knees, stopping next to his brother's torso. He quickly tried to calm him down, saying everything was going to be alright. He asked if he could see the wound, just to see if it was bad. His younger brother obeyed, removing his red gloved hand from his chest. His white chest-piece was completely shredded, his red scarf and his chest peppered with holes filled with pellets. It didn't take long for the guard to figure it out, and he fought off the urge to cry. He didn't want it to happen again. He didn't want to lose him another time. He wouldn't be able to handle it. He just wanted to be with his brother again. He wanted to keep him the innocent brother he always knew him as. He wanted him happy. He needed him happy.

"it's fine, papy. you'll be okay. you'll be okay.."
he lied, his voice cracking as he placed his brother's hand back on his chest, closing his eyes.

He felt his brother's arms wrap around him, squeezing him. He opened his eyes, seeing tears flowing down Papyrus' face.

"SANS... WHAT IS IT LIKE?"

"it's...like sleeping. if.. it makes it easier, i can... read you a story?"

"Please…" His brother said.

“okay…” He replied, quivering. Pausing momentarily, he told his favorite bedtime story.

“one day, the little fluffy bunny ran into the meadow for a game of hide-and-seek. they searched through the grass. she was not there. they searched through the pond. she was not there.”

As he continued, he hugged Papyrus as tightly as he could, starting to feel his form disappear into nothing. He kept reciting the story even as he saw his brother crumble to dust until he was just clutching the tattered remains of his scarf.

“wh-where could m-my fluffy bunny…… be?” He whispered before burying his face in the scarf, sobbing into it.

He remained in that position for a while, even as the Doomguy walked out of one of the metal booths, punching the side of one while letting out a frustrated groan. He quickly took notice of the security guard, his cries muffled. His helmet hid a cocked eyebrow that was slowly replaced by a look of horrific realization. At the same time, the skeleton’s weeps grew silent as he removed the scarf from his face. He found his hood had fallen over his head, masking all but his smile.

Looking up from the scarf, he stared at the super soldier, his hands turning into fists that tightened around the scarf. He stood up, never taking his eyes off of the demonic individual.

“man, would you look at all the destruction everywhere. might just be me, but i don’t remember it happening before you showed up. i also didn’t remember my brother dead either. silly thing, huh? how things like this just happen on occasion.”

The soldier took a step back, obviously weary of what was going on as well as the disturbingly goofy tone the comedian displayed.

“but i know what you’re thinking. you probably got some justification for why you’re trying to shut down the portal. probably that thing that you said happened. well, dude? i stand by my response to that.”

The skeleton chuckled, his hands surrounded by a cyan smoke, his eye sockets pitch black. Before the man could respond, he found himself surrounded by five bone-like spears, followed by a large goat skull on both sides of him.

“I ain’t letting you kill us.”
