“Well, can’t we just create fire?” Gildarts said, “It’s what we’ll have to do with the wood anyway.”
Molly had put on her sassy pants, and her arms were crossed swifter than the gates of heaven. “Oh? Just for that you need to make two, one for the group, and one for you because you won’t be sitting with us!”
“Uh…” Gildarts translated the mean girl terms in his mind. “Really?”
“Nah, but it is cooler if you make it yourself, you can use a lighter if you want because friction on the wood would probably chaffe your hands… Gildarts what is THAT?!” Molly exclaimed.
“Uh, what?” Gildarts blinked as she pointed to his right pectoral.
“Did you get stabbed?” Molly’s eyes widened, “And you played volleyball like that?”
“Yeah, I wasn’t wearing a shirt so you could’ve noticed then as well,” Gildarts pointed out.
“Mhm, I was a little preoccupied with kicking your butt!” Molly exclaimed.
“Oh, okay…” Gildarts’ brows came together in a masculine pout.
“My point is, what are you thinking?!” Molly’s inner maternal instincts were coming out.
“It’ll heal eventually, I’m magic, and I guess my body’s made of Omnillium too,” Gildarts pointed out.
“It’ll heal eventually,” she mimicked with her eyes cross-eyed, “Gil, is that how you lost your arm and leg? Probably of gangrene or INFECTION!”
“Oh, I’m a mage, my blood has magic build into it, I don’t get sic-”
“I DON’T THINK SO GILDARTS CLIVE!” She said like a nagging wife on DBZ, “I think you’re afraid of hospitals.”
“No… I’ve just never needed one,” Gildarts said. The first father-daughter argument. The crash mage couldn’t quite see how this was relevant, but from a human’s point of view, he probably could’ve gotten a better understanding of her perception if he tried.
“Tch! Boys are sooo difficult,” She said and realized Dust was probably watching from whatever perch he was on.
“That’s why you can wait till you’re married to get one,” Gildarts stated with a satisfied smile.
“Uh-HEY! That’s not even fair! Your sense is worse than normal!” Molly burst, pointing again yet.
“Molly, I appreciate your concern, if it hit an artery or something I would’ve known because the blood wouldn’t have stopped, but despite the appearance of a hole in my chest, I’m fine,” he pat her back to show some fatherly comfort and asked, “Instead of worrying about me, why don’t we build the fire together? I used to do it a lot when I was on the road. Say, what is a lighter?”
“What? Really?” her mood changed with the tides, and they were sparkling with excitement, “You’ll show me how to survive in the wilderness all by myself?”
“Uh.. Maybe we’ll save that for another day,” Gildarts said, Guu would likely never approve of that. Camping in Tangled wasn’t exactly… Safe.
“Wow! You just promised to take me camping in the Tangled Green! Can we go far away from Ambrosia on a little mission and everything? Just the two of us?” Molly jumped up and down with her energy tapped glee.
“Did you just twist my words?” Gildarts said with an amused smile.
“Can’t prove it!” Molly said with a smile.
“Oh, you really are growing up,” Gildarts said with a smile.
“Let’s see if we can collect some driftwood, Omnilium is the easy way out!” Gildarts stated, he could make fire out of pretty much anything. It was one of his rare skills, if it was soaking wet, he could do it with sheer skill. Perhaps he had the magic touch.
“Oh boy!” Molly jumped up and signaled Piqui with a beckon of her hand.
Gildarts looked at her go for a moment and his eyes fell on the half-sun dipping into the ocean. He felt a longing to live in this moment forever, it was a nice feeling, seeing his legacy grow before his eyes. The prime held a solemn expression on his face though, lines of age bore worry and regret for a life well-lived but not well spent.
This moment would not last forever. When would be his time to finally cash in a well deserved rest? Endings, like moments, were fleeting and would not last forever. He took comfort in it for a moment, and then his utterly drained, tired bones of Omnilium reminded him, he couldn't ever take the final slumber.
