Minato's scouting hadn't yielded anything substantial. He was unable to find anyone near the two ninja, and on top of that, he found no traces of anything that could be relic related. He'd promised to help, but so far he hadn't been able to do anything for the poor spirit, Teucer. Minato laid back against the slope of their ditch, a disappointed look on his face. His face flicked with the light from the fire that Kakashi had lit.
The blonde ninja watched as Kakashi threw the bones of his prey into the fire pit between them. He had always wondered why Kakashi wore that mask so often. Come to think of it, he couldn't really remember a time where he had seen his pupil without the mask.
'Hey Kakashi… what's under the mask?' Minato questioned, the curiosity in his voice and face his the disappointment that he was feeling. 'Under this mask…?' Kakashi replied, his companion nodding as he lifted his hand to the edge of the material that covered most of his face. The anticipation that swelled within Minato had completely overridden what he had been feeling just before.
'Under this mask is… Another mask.' Kakashi spoke as he pulled the layer of material down, revealing another face mask. One that was completely identical to the one that he'd just removed. Minato groaned and returned to laying against the trench wall as Kakashi lifted the mask back over his face. 'Sensei… What happened with the nine tails?' Kakashi's voice spoke through the flames that rest between them.
'I fought it. It wasn't an easy fight...' His voice trailed off as he remembered the pain of having the beast's claw pierce his back and exit out his front. 'But I managed to seal it away. Half of it is sealed inside myself.' Minato paused as he lifted his green flack jacket, revealing the seal on his stomach. 'The other half... is inside of Naruto.' The golden haired man finished. He had done this to his son because he knew that Naruto would save their world some day, and Minato knew that the fox's power would help him.
Kakashi didn't say anything, he trusted the decisions that Minato made. He'd learned just how strong and wise that his former sensei was a long time ago. If he believed that his son would be able to control that power one day, then he wasn't going to question his choices. Minato's recollection of his fight hadn't been as brief as his explanation, but he spared Kakashi the details.
'Still… It still amazing that you fought the fox and won.' Kakashi remarked, he, clearly, still admired the former hokage.
'I wouldn't say that I won though.' Minato laughed as the two watched a thin column of smoke rise into the night sky.
