The night deepened as the pair of stoic warriors continued along the long road they had elected to travel upon. After a while, the dense foliage of the jungle began to give way to rolling hills, thick with long grasses and stands of bushy trees. Even in the precipitous gloom of the evening, Kopaka could see rather well. The Toa wished, however, that he had access to a Kanohi Ruru, the Mask of Night Vision. It wasn't as though the path in front of them was obscured, but it would have been nice to have a little more clarity on the off chance that they ran into trouble. There was something larger that Kopaka was straining to see, however.
Every so often, as a crinkled ribbon of lightning arced across the sky, the entire island would be illuminated. Off in the distance, nearly on the horizon, there was some immense thig whose sillhouette dominated the inky sky. Bigger than a mountain, taller than the clouds themselves. Kopaka could only speculate as to what the behemoth structure might be, but whatever it was, there was a high possibility that an artifact was associated with it.
During one of their brief rest stops, Kopaka had pointed it out to Magus, but the wizard seemed to be preoccupied with something else. Indeed, Kopaka had seen the ruined city that their road led to quite some time ago. Even as he continued to trudge along the half-buried cobbltestones, the Toa turned to look at the ruins. After a moment, there came a flash of light from inside the city; a violet luminescence that bounced off the columns and arches that rose above the otherwise dilapidated buildings. It was no lightning strike that had caused the brilliance. It was clear that other Primes had already begun to investigate the jumbled piles of hewn stone.
"Did you see that?" Kopaka asked, flicking his blue eye over to Magus ever so briefly. The wizard blinked his weary red hues.
"The flash? Yes."
Kopaka nodded. He didn't need to have Magus confirm that he understood the implications. The man's intelligence was insurance enough for that...
