Quote:A/N: Guardian fight post.
Flashbacks to come later filling in some plot gaps because word limit.
“…oh brother.”
The motley crew stared up at the Last Giant. For several tense moments, not a muscle moved. One of the creature’s feet began to lift. The foot hovered in the air for mere seconds, and then suddenly changed trajectory...
...straight for us.
“Move!” Blues shouted. Instantly, the group scattered.
Mickey leapt forward, underneath the shadow of the giant’s step. He sucked in a quick, shallow breath of relief as he barely escaped flattening. He flipped over, staring up straight at the backside of the beast. Putting his trademark mouse reflexes to use, he lunged for the thing’s foot, grasping one of the swords stabbed into the creature’s flesh.
“Listen, buddy—” he screamed at the top of his lungs, trying to reach the giant’s ears. If he had any, they seemed a mile away. “We just want that relic back, pal! No one’s gotta get hurt!”
A low rumble came from their foe. He obviously disagreed with that idea.
“I don’t think we’re gonna talk our way out of this one!” Ruby called. Immediately after, Mickey felt the giant’s foot lift again and abruptly shake him off, tossing him across the cave. He slammed into one of the rocky walls.
Once he’d recovered, Mickey tugged Play, Boy out of the back of his pocket. Surely Teucer put something in the survival guide about how to defeat the people guarding these things. He flipped through the pages fruitlessly. Suddenly it all seemed like useless picture after useless picture of lightly armored women. And how could that help him now?
Suddenly, a hand wrapped around his mouse wrist. The mouse looked up to find Belle staring him in the face, her forehead scrunched with frustration. “Mickey, put down that damn magazine before that son of a bitch kills your robot friend.”
The mouse’s eyes flickered up from the pages. Belle was right. The Last Giant had turned his attention to Proto Man, Ruby, and Weiss, all cornered up against the opposite wall of the cavern. No way—that poor white-haired girl and her friend had been through enough because of them already, and the former King wasn’t about to let this monster stomp all over one of his best friends.
Not without a goshdarn fight.
Mickey Mouse charged ahead of his redheaded companion. He weaved between the guardian’s legs and popped out the other side. That instant, a hand swept toward Ruby and Weiss. In one fluid motion, the mouse reached out and grabbed them both by the leg and yanked them out of the path of the creature’s gigantic palm. Proto Man stumbled backward, just barely evading being swatted away by the towering giant. After ensuring the safety of the girls, he set his sights on his best friend.
One of the creature’s feet slammed down behind him. Thanks to some help from Belle, Weiss and Ruby managed to get out of the way, but a gust of wind picked the pair of pint-sized heroes up and sent them both crashing into the nearby cavern wall.
Clink, clink.
The Potara earrings rolled out of his pocket. Before the thought even fully formed in his brain, his desperation reached out and swiped them up, tossing one to Blues. His friend wasted no time in sticking one in his synthetic ear.
Mickey did the same. A flash of light engulfed the cave, sending the formidable giant staggering backward for the first time.
As the dust settled, a familiar friend cracked his neck.
“Alright, pal,” Proto Mouse smirked, “Let’s do this thing.”
