FACE TO FACE
LINK, ERIK VRELL, MAKOTO YUKI Vs. DANTE, DESCO, URURU KYUUEI
LINK, ERIK VRELL, MAKOTO YUKI Vs. DANTE, DESCO, URURU KYUUEI
The green-clad youth Link sat silently recovering from his recent battle with Cenobia. In his vicinity his new found friends, Erik and Yuki scavenged the area in hope for supplies. Beyond disappointment there was little to be found in the decaying shell of this once prosperous city. The psychic sighed after his fruitless search and sat next to Link on an overturned pillar. Makoto had disappeared into a decrepit hovel, no doubt scavenging the two-storied building for equipment or scraps of food. All three of the companions were bruised and battered, but they were most importantly alive . The sound of steel slicing through air whizzed past Link’s ear as a bat-shaped projectile narrowly missed the back of his head. The two warriors scrambled to their feet and turned to face their aggressor.
“Oops! Desco missed,” the young demon-toting girl exclaimed. “Hey are you two heroes on a quest?”
There were three in total, three fresh enemies, all of them without so much as a misplaced hair. To the left was a non-threatening younger girl, probably in her mid-teens. Directly center a white-haired man shadowed the two smaller kids. Finally the aforementioned demon girl, gripping those strange bat-shaped shurikens in her fleshy purple tendrils. Not only were Erik and Link currently outnumbered, they were in considerably worse shape than the others. Tension was thick in the air and both parties stood their ground. Desco stepped forward with a slight smile on her face.
“Well are you?” She chirped.
Link responded hesitantly, “Yeah, we are. Why do you ask?”
“Well, because Desco is the Final Boss, and all good heroes have to beat the Final Boss to succeed in their quest!”
“Oh let’s just kill them already,” the other girl sighed.
Panic struck Link and Erik like a freight train. Quickly the hylian fished out his device from its hiding spot. A metallic orange cube with question marks on all sides, silently Link punched the underside of the box and prayed. A definite schink was heard as a blue hilt jutted from the top of the block. Link’s heart skipped a beat as he pulled the sword free, it was all too familiar, this blade was indeed the master sword. A surge of confidence enveloped the youth as he glared at his approaching adversaries. Erik peeled from his friend, drawing the attention of the two females.
Deeper into the ruins Ururu and Desco chased their prey. Solid pangs of steel ricocheted off the stone walls as the demon-girl hurled the sharpened blades at the fleeing psychic. In her mind this was great fun, even if her accuracy wasn’t the greatest, it was almost like a minigame. Erik knew he was outmatched and outgunned and at this point he needed to survive more than anything. It was in this frantic escape that he failed to notice the shinobi girl split from her ally in an attempt to flank him. For now all he could worry about was dodging Desco’s assaults.
Dante approached the hylian cautiously, the boy seemed young and yet he held his sword confidently. In this land of Omni one could not underestimate anyone; for all he knew the kid could be a master swordsman, or perhaps a master actor.
“Careful, you don’t want to poke your eye out with that,” Dante mocked.
“Watch what you say or I’ll poke your eye out,” Link snarled back.
With lightning speed the hero of time charged the son of sparda. Link’s injured back served only to hinder his movements, every slice was excruciatingly slow. His adversary moved deftly, dodging every chop and hack with mastered movements. Perhaps he was overestimating his opponent, after all he was just a kid. But he was a kid with friends, a hail of stones launched by Yuki buffeted Dante. He dashed back and disengaged from the pursuing Link before turning to face his new attacker.
“You again?” Dante spit onto the ground, “I guess I won’t make the mistake of letting you live this time.”
To punctuate his threat he called upon his favored sword, Rebellion. In a flash of red light the wicked blade was made manifest and its wielder grinned. The waning power that held Rebellion together began to dissipate, much like sand in a sieve. He had to act. The green one was the closest, and he was the biggest threat. Once the hylian hero was exterminated, killing the highschooler would be child’s play. Dante dashed forward, intent on chopping Link to bits.
“No! Watch out!” Yuki screamed.
“Come out! Hiding is boring, Desco doesn’t want to play hide and seek right now!”
Erik had managed to narrowly evade his demonic pursuer by dashing into one of the several buildings lining the cobblestone road. His heart was racing fast and he fought to gasp for air, if he could just stay silent long enough perhaps she would get bored and move on. Hopefully Link and Makoto can handle the big guy he thought I’ll just double back after this one leaves. Risking life and limp he peeked from through a long-shattered window. The strange girl had begun to glow purple and a sense of danger enveloped her. Bright blue bolts of energy sparked across her body, no doubt the sign of some terrible magic. With the force of a tsunami he tendrils exploded towards the nearest building, crashing into it with incredible force.
“Come out come out wherever you are!” Desco yelled, smashing part another ruin.
Erik sighed, it was only a matter of time before she reached his hiding spot. Her incredible strength no doubt surpassed his own, especially now in such a weakened state. Unfortunately Desco was the least of his worries, Ururu had been combing the ruins in search for him and she had found him. The two locked eyes for but a moment before Erik bumrushed her, hoping to silence her before she could alert her ally. He tackled her to the ground and delivered a few well-placed blows to the face. Ururu struggled violently, attempting to move the oppressive weight now place upon her chest. Two bony hands wrapped around her throat, keeping her silent and choking her. Vision began to fade and her muscles burned with exhaustion. Even in her asphyxiated state of mind she was still searching for opportunities and a vicious one presented itself. Striking like a scorpion her left hand reached for Erik’s eye.
“AAAHG!” Erik shrieked as her finger gouged his right eye.
Behind him Desco crashed through the stone wall, nearly destroying the entire building in the process. It took less than a moment for her to process what was happening.
“Don’t hurt Ururu!” she yelled, “Desco will rip you apart!”
Thick purple tentacles slammed into Erik’s side throwing him through a nearby wall. Ururu gasped as fresh air invaded her lungs. Desco paused for a moment to help Ururu to her feet before chasing after Erik. Her monstrous strength had hit Erik with enough force to launch him through a crumbling wall and outside to freedom. Curiously she peered through the newly-created hole in hopes of finding the psychic. Unfortunate for the Final Boss her opponent had escaped into the thick underbrush, and out of sight.
Dante’s blade sang through the air, charged with malefic force. Link held his sword ready to intercept the blow, his back on the verge of giving out. Time seemed to freeze as the two warrior’s prepared to clinch blades. Their fated fight was interrupted by a meddling blue-haired youth. In his hand he held a strange pale orb, seemingly inert and lifeless. Makoto stepped in between the two and shielded Link with his thin form. Dante smirked and struck viciously.
“Two for one special? I’ll take it!”
Rebellion slammed into Makoto’s shoulder with a thunderous crash. It seemed frozen in space, no matter how hard Dante pressed it simply would not cut. A pale purple aura swallowed Yuki and protected him from the blade’s edge. Dante watched in horror as his weapon dematerialized in flash of red.
“I won’t let you hurt my friends,” Makoto growled in the face of Dante.
“Fine,” Dante scoffed, “I guess I’ll have to take my frustrations out on you.”
With that he elbowed Makoto in the jaw, sending the poor kid stumbling to the ground. A brutal stomp delivered Yuki into the dirt and a final kick cracked a rib. Link yelled in anger and slashed at Dante. A line of fire tore into the Son of Sparda’s chest as the blade tore a long trench into his chest. Dante’s fist weaved through Link’s defense and nailed the hylian in the nose. A jet of blood spurted from Link’s nose, but he swung again ignoring the pain. Dante narrowly avoided the second slice, and jumped backwards putting space between him and Link. There was little chance that he could fight off Link without a weapon of his own, so to save his life he decided discretion was the better part of valor and fled into the forest.
