Day 1 Morning
#35
It said something about the amount of time Ururu had spent in this body that she was able to break her fall upon three of her four limbs, even when her stomach did a sudden backflip. Even so she was ready with her fourth limb, or rather her right arm to begin pounding anything within reach.

Her eyes however found nothing but prairie whose breeze was passing through with just enough boldness to bring a glimmer of a smile to her. It was a beautiful scene; pastures like this were a rarity in Hi no Kuni but something in the air though was off. It was too bold, though it had yet to reach a gale; there was a potency in it, even as it moved lazily through the vegetation.

It was searching for something, that much she could tell, but beyond that she could only guess.

Her career as ninja, a historian, archeologist, and architect- well two of those were extensions of the other two… but as a shinobi and an archeologist, she had learned to pay attention to events and the nature of things and here… the nature seemed off. Not even Balance that had been preventing her from using her vast array of jutsu was here.

No, compared to that barely stifling atmosphere, this was a tyrannical oppression, and yet…

Ururu slowly got up, checking her pockets again and all she found was a children’s toy of sorts. A plastic disguise? Fake animal teeth. Great. Nothing that would help her efforts in seizing this day for herself.

“Guess he didn’t like my attitude, maybe I should have faked it,” Ururu muttered, though the expected rebuke from Hikaru never came. Not mental, not physical and not even teasing. She would even take lecturing about her behavior and how her maturity had gone down the hole since she put this body on…

Instead she got nothing. The pit in her chest deepened.

Just like the rest of the world, nothing. It took everything from her, the chance of true freedom with the one she loved. Just as she had started growing content.

Ururu mentally slapped herself for growing distracted, she couldn’t mope. No amount of that would ever help her get her family back. But the question was what would a normal Ururu do.

“Focus on the underneath.” Ururu said in her best sing-song Hikaru voice, the effect of which was ruined by her normal rasp. But it was enough to give her the centering she needed. The underneath here was the world she was in. It was isolated from the rest of the verses. Mayhap the isolationverse, was this what it was? Or rather a larger more powerful version of it?

The symptoms fit the Spirit’s words.

It was on a much grander scale and the temple was proof of habitation or history prior to it being summoned. What was summoned was tied to the history of the summoner. Thus to understand the whole thing she had to understand the land itself. The underneath.

A shinobi though looked under that however. And the city in the distance seemed like a good place to start.
