A white expanse momentarily opened up around Smith, a brief instant in time, before he was immediately swallowed by the darkness again. A sensation of falling washed over the program and in an eternity of seconds he regained his senses in… what appeared to be a temple from ancient Greece. Strange… had the Machines changed their minds about the idyllic world and decided to, once again, go to a moment in human history?
Smith’s thoughts were interrupted by words being spoken nearby. The source? A floating hologram of some sort identifying itself as the Hero’s Spirit. It briefly explained why it had brought the ex-Agent, and the others around him, to this place. It fielded a few questions, and the other people began to break off into groups, but Smith just let his memory routines handle gathering what they were talking about while he devoted his processes to thinking about just what was going on.
This was obviously the Matrix. No lie the Architect tried to tell Smith would convince him otherwise. The white room was a dead giveaway. Apparently they had mistakenly routed Smith to the Architect’s chambers before sending him here. But what to do about it? The Ex-Agent crossed his arms as he pondered his options. If he was still in the Matrix, then there was really only one path for him to take. He would complete his purpose, his mission, and destroy this world.
As Smith set his mind to his new task, the world around him passed by unnoticed.
