A glimpse into the future. Being the glutton for knowledge that he was, Kakashi was surely tempted by the adolescent’s offer. Indeed, he knew that there was hardly a person alive that would not be curious about what the future held. Still, the shinobi could not shake the strange feeling he had about this girl.
“Sure,” the copy ninja responded flatly, “but we’ve just met. How are we to know that what you’re saying is true?” Kakashi could only barely conceal the sound of distrust in his voice.
It was all too serendipitous, stumbling upon Minato and now this future-girl. Years within the ranks of ANBU had conditioned him to regard everything with some degree of suspicion, and this was no different. Kakashi could tell beyond a shadow of a doubt that the man that stood beside him was his former sensei; he need only focus his sharingan on the man’s chakra to confirm this. No, what irked him was the sudden emergence of this child, herself only too keen to gain their trust. And the title with which she had addressed him, Rokudaime. Surely this spelled deceit.
“Sorry, you’ll have to forgive Kakashi’s tone,” Minato said with a smile, bending at the waist to meet the newcomer at eye-level. “But he has a point.”
Try as he might, the scarecrow could not place just what was so strange about this girl. Surely her words were odd enough to warrant suspicion, though this was not what was setting off alarms in the shinobi’s head. Perhaps he had just been thrown by her sudden emergence and paranoia had taken over. For the moment, he would need to let it go.
