Adam's Game
#10
Brought to you in stunning Roll20 Text-o-vision.

ElFailzalot, Brother Luke, Artom, Story and System are all me, providing various roles.
Kalee V. is Amber, and Snow is her character, a human Life Cleric.
Dark L. is, of course, DL, and Valdis is his character, a Dwarven Rogue, of the Assassin archetype.
ADventuresVDO is Jams, and Music is his character, a Tiefling Lore College Bard.
Jack is a player gathered off of Roll20, and Jayth is his character, a human Fighter specializing in great weapons.
Weiss S. is of course Weiss, and Aska is her character, an Elven Warlock.

[spoiler]ElFailzalot (GM): Alrighty. What's this about what now?

Dark L.: I believe Brother Luke was about to lead us to the catacombs

ElFailzalot (GM): Ah yes.
Very well then. We'll just assume Aska will...stay behind to keep an eye on things, warn others away, for now.

Jayth: Did our break count as a rest, or can we take the opportunity to have a rest?

ElFailzalot (GM): What sort of rest? You can easily take a short rest, if you'd like.

Snow: The cleric is here

Jayth: I only need a short rest. But Snow might need a long one to recover spells.

ElFailzalot (GM): A long rest would be several hours, You could take one, but it might not pan out the best.
We can just assume you had time to take a short rest during the aftermath of dealing with Kyrus.

Dark L.: We can't afford a long rest. Forlario might end up attacking us if we idle about in the lobby

ElFailzalot (GM): A valid point.

Jayth: Ok, quick breather it is.
Alright Luke, lead the way.

Brother Luke: "Last I recall, it should be in here...blasted rug might have been hiding it."

Jayth: Well the "rug" has been taken care of.

Kaylee V.: (I'm roleplaying as I play DnD, So, bear with me(Pun intented))

Dark L.: (That's the point XD)

ADventuresVDO: proceeds to gently kick the rug

Kaylee V.: (No, I'm on another site, roleplaying a chat roleplay)

Valdis: Brother Luke....

Brother Luke: "Hrmm?"

Valdis: I am not one to care for customs much. But since you are aiding us and you are the de facto owner of this place now, I will respect your wishes to some degree. If there is anything you don't want desecrated, let us know and we won't touch it.
But that is as far as my generosity extends. Anything else is fair game for our taking. Do we have an agreement?

Brother Luke: "Bah....anything left intact here has been desecrated from the moment this 'Forlario' set foot in here... Nothing left but dust and old relics. Never plan to set foot back in this place again. Take whatever you need. Payment for helping clear out the place, if it pleases you."

Valdis: nods curtly Very well. Lead the way.

Snow: Thank you Brother Luke.

Dark L.: By the way, these separate tabs for players and characters are really handy Big Grin

Kaylee V.: Yes, I really like it too XD

System: It takes only a moment, and Brother Luke pries up a thin sheaf of stone, blending in with the other flooring tiles, revealing a trapdoor set into the floor.

ElFailzalot (GM): They really are handy.

Dark L.: Must have been an easy check if he succeeded with a 4 XD

ElFailzalot (GM): Well, he had Advantage since he knew exactly what he was searching for. But yes, it was a rather easy check. xD

Valdis: puts away her shield on her back and equips her newly found shortsword instead

Brother Luke: "And here we are..." He hauls open the hatch, with much creaking of rusty hinges and dust flying about from disturbing the ancient portal.

Dark L.: So now I'm dual wielding and my AC has been reduced accordingly.

Brother Luke: "Clearly Forlario hasn't been doing much in the way of coming and going. Don't blame him..."
He turns to look over the rest of the group. "Anyone who's able to get a light going might want to do it. Probably not much for vision down here."

Snow: "What can we expect once we get down there, Luke?"

Jayth: I pull out a torch and light it.

Valdis: Someone must have come up here. That bear rug and the journal weren't supposed to be here.

Brother Luke: He chuckles at the mention of what to expect. "Oh, the usual... Dust, grime, old bones strewn about, vermin creeping in from who knows where....nothing pleasant."

ADventuresVDO: "Can someone hand me a generic object?"

Valdis: searches through her backpack and shows the rest of the party her lantern
Anyone want this? I don't need it....

ADventuresVDO: "That lantern could help. I can enchant it to give it light even when it has no fuel."

ElFailzalot (GM): Just give a holler when everyone's ready to head down, and I'll move y'all down to the lower level.

Valdis: nods and gives the lantern to him Keep it.

Jack: Ready

Kaylee V.: Ready

ADventuresVDO: "Thank you, friend!" Music prepares to enchant the lantern

Dark L.: Also, please note in your sheet that you have a Hooded Lantern now (2 lb.)

ADventuresVDO: (2 weight, right?)

Brother Luke: "Alright....down we go." And he heads down the stairs, into the dankness of the catacombs below.

Kaylee V.: And yes, Aska and Snow have last names now, Eira.

Valdis: quietly follows suit

Snow Eira: "Damn. it's darker than I thought down here"

Kaylee V.: I HEAR EVERYTHING

Story: Everyone but the bard hears it as they descend: low groaning voices, if they can be called that. The slight shuffle of atrophied limbs and dumb, mindless thought focused only toward their simple orders to guide them. There were Undead here, as well. And many of them.

Brother Luke: "I'm really not liking what I'm hearing down here..."

Snow Eira quickly lit one of her torches to help get more light.

Snow Eira: "Neither do I Luke. Looks like we're in for some fighting."

ADventuresVDO: Still holding his magically lit lantern, Music wonders why everyone seems so unsettled.

Valdis: draws both of her shortswords

ElFailzalot (GM): There's a torch you can control, Snow. Move it around as needed.

Kaylee V.: Thank you.

System: Everyone may advance or take whatever action they see fit.

Snow Eira puts away her shield, on her back, and carries the torch in her now free hand, holding her mace in the other.

Jack: Following Luke down the corridor to make space for those behind me.

Kaylee V.: Is there a way I can attach the torch to my token?

Dark L.: By the way, Valdis has Darkvision

Snow Eira: "I'll watch our backs, make sure nothing flanks us."

ADventuresVDO: Same with Music.

ElFailzalot (GM): Aye, it's already marked in your sight ranges.

Snow Eira: "Valid point."

Kaylee V.: I would say so DL

ElFailzalot (GM): Yes, the zombies can see you.

Music: Music nods in the distance

ElFailzalot (GM): You DO have the only light source down here; kind of hard to be missed, even for something as stupid as zombies.

Dark L.: Ok

ADventuresVDO: I tried to use my cantrip "Light" to light this lantern. Did I do it wrong?

ElFailzalot (GM): No.

Valdis: Valdis sighs, noting there was no way to handle this in a stealthy manner. Marking the nearest target for death, she charges forth. (Uses her Assassinate ability and uses Dash as her bonus action)
(Moves double speed towards her target)

Kaylee V.: The area seems to be very enclosed Jams.

ADventuresVDO: But that would be rude.

Kaylee V.: Such a gentleman

ADventuresVDO: Music gets as close as he can and stops, seeing as there isn't much for him to do at the moment.

System: Snow's turn.

Dark L.: Ok, I'm back.
Alright, I didn't keep anyone waiting. =)

Kaylee V.: Snow can't see ahead of the fallen zombie, is anyone hurt?

Jack: Not enough to be worth a spell.

Kaylee V.: What can be seen ahead? Can anyone tell me?

ADventuresVDO: More zombies.

Jack: Narrow corrider, with zombies.

Kaylee V.: Ok, noww I see

System: Encounter over; VICTORY.

Weiss S.: "Snow..." Aska breathed in a low tone, noticing her injury. "...Bastard." Aska spat at the lifeless corpse.

Dark L.: I thought it was 10, but apparently not

Snow Eira: "Aska, I assume you hear the fight from above and came to help?" She whispered to her sister.

Story: Creeping forward, you don't notice anything all that out of place, given the environs. It is damp and musty, and everything is covered in dust and grime, making it hard to tell what may or may not be suspect.

Valdis: rummaging through her backpack, Valdis takes out her mirror and peeks around the corner with it
(Not sure if I have to do a roll for this or not)

Weiss S.: Aska avoids Snow's eyes slightly at the comment. "Something like that." She responds, walking just in front of snow

ElFailzalot (GM): Where are you looking?

Kaylee V.: Was I the only one who wondered what this corridor led to?

Story: Looking back behind the party, Snow sees a side passage leading off of the main path. A faint glow of light can be seen from it.

Valdis: Sneaking to the other side, she checks around the other corner as well

ElFailzalot (GM): Up here, Valdis?

Valdis: (yes)

Snow Eira squints at the light.

Story: Checking the other side, you see another set of large doors, seemingly carved out of the same stone as the surrounding walls. They stand soundly closed.

Story: Aside from the general oddity of the blue torch, Snow can't find anything out of the ordinary about the room.

Snow Eira decides the small room seems alright to move into and proceeds to the brazier.

Story: Examining the door closely, Valdis can see there is in fact a trap on it. A rather obvious one, but likely intentionally made that way.
As Snow draws near, the light of the torch flares up for a moment, before the faint sound of footsteps sound from back the way she just came.

Kaylee V.: ARTOM

Snow Eira quickly turn to Artom upon the sound of footsteps.

Artom: "Many greetings to you, prospective new friend. Artom is always ready to provide supplies to adventurers, regardless of location."

Valdis: "The door is rigged.....and I suspect something sinister is hidden behind it."

Snow Eira: "A-Artom? You're a merchant?"

Artom: The odd, cloaked man makes a gesture resembling a bow. "This is correct. Artom is merchant, travelling this world and many others."

ElFailzalot (GM): As a side note, I think we lost Weiss.

Snow Eira: "Do you know anything about this place? Perhaps what this flame might be?" Snow pointed to the brazier.

Dark L.: If he doesn't come back, we can just explain it as Aska seeing we're ok and going back to warn any visitors.
*she

Brother Luke: Slowly marching up at the mention of a trap, he looks somewhat perturbed. "I don't really recall there being any traps in this place...kind of went against our whole creed."

Kaylee V.: Yeah, I would've assumed that she would have gone with snow, or not let her go.

Artom: "Eeeeh, Artom is only visitor, cannot provide information, sadly. As for flame..." He shrugs. "Is how we mark shops where Artom is from."

Kaylee V.: Btw, I'm very blind to everything else right now, guys and Artom is talking to me XD

Valdis: 'Whoever put it in place was being deliberate...almost like they wanted it to be found.'

Brother Luke: He just grunts in irritation. "That just has to be good news."

Snow Eira: "So, this fire is only here for you? I'm not sure I can believe that."

Artom: "Believing is not required. Does not make fact any less true."

Snow Eira: Snow, still suspicious of this new character, keeps her distance. "Okay, what kind of merchandise do you have then?

Story: Looking carefully over the door, there is a faint crack where the two doors meet that it might be possible to see through.

Valdis: Carefully, Valdis takes a peek

Artom: "This is what Artom said, yes. Tangling them up, slowing them down, keeping them at bay, distracting them. Make them not be attacking you for a moment."

Valdis: (Do I have to roll Perception again?)

ElFailzalot (GM): (Nah, you're good.)

ADventuresVDO: Sorry 'bout that, I make my return.

Snow Eira: "What is this item you talk about that will distract them?

ElFailzalot (GM): That is what you're able to see, Valdis.

Story: It appears to be a heavily mutated or twisted example of one, but after a moment Valdis determines the creature right before the door to be a Ghoul.

Kaylee V.: Would I be able to trade him?

ElFailzalot (GM): You may certainly try.

Valdis: Stepping away, Valdis nods to herself

ADventuresVDO: Music snaps out of his daydreams and catches up to the group. He promptly falls on his face and breaks his lute, then spends so-n'-so minutes grieving over it.

Artom: Artom looks thoughtful for a moment, as if weighing his options, looking at the stone in his hand. "Artom is generous today. Will trade you for mace. Three for one."
He fishes another two of the odd stones out of his pouch and holds them out to Snow.

Weiss S.: I am sorry
my internet decided to go off for a few minutes

Snow Eira reaches into her pack and hands Artom the mace, in exchange for the stones.

Weiss S.: what'd I miss?

Kaylee V.: Snow kind of just walked off into the darkness, and no one has noticed it yet XD

Artom: Artom takes the mace and looks it over appraisingly, before nodding to himself and setting it aside. "Is good to be helping travelers." And he hands over the stones.

System: Snow has acquired three Thunderstones.

Dark L.: We also checked the doorway and Valdis reported that it's trapped and there's a weird, mutated type of Ghoul behind it.

Kaylee V.: I'd like to use that to evolve my eevee please

Jayth: Do you want to attempt to get through that door Valdis or go further down this tunnel?

System: The thunderstone creates a deafening bang that is treated as a sonic attack. Each creature within a 10-foot-radius spread must make a DC 10 Constitution save or be deafened for (6 - Constitution bonus) minutes. A deafened creature, in addition to the obvious effects, takes disadvantage on the first round of initiative and has a 20% chance to miscast and lose any spell with a verbal component that it tries to cast during the duration of the deafness. Since you don’t need to hit a specific target, you can simply aim at a particular 5-foot square. Treat the target square as AC 5.

Valdis: Valdis tries to remember how strong Ghouls are

ElFailzalot (GM): Yes it is.

Dark L.: Also, do I use (Unskilled INT check)? Using the Save roll probably isn't accurate.

Valdis: 'I do not know. From what little I know of the matter, Ghouls are vicious foes. If it is alone, all of us combines could probably take it down. However, I cannot help but suspect that whoever set this trap is counting on us being overconfident. There could be more in store behind this door...'

Jayth: Corridor it is then.

Snow Eira: "Th-Thank you, Artom. I will definately recommend travellers to you"

Valdis: 'Brother Luke, your thoughts?'

Artom: "Ohohohoho. Recommendations of business is very good thing for merchant. Artom thanks you." He steps back to make room toward the exit.

Snow Eira branches off to return to the group. She had strayed for several minutes now, and hoped they hadn't left her behind.

Brother Luke: "Hmm....." He sinks deep into thought for a moment. "....if it was just a ghoul, I've no doubt all of us could handle it fairly easily...but it's never just a ghoul...ghouls are intelligent and can still think and plan...it's either waiting there for someone to try and get through the trap, or it's deliberately herding us off down this side passage."

Kaylee V.: Adam, plus 8 health please. :3

ElFailzalot (GM): You can edit that yourself, y'know.

Dark L.: Done

Kaylee V.: Artom is such a boss dude

ElFailzalot (GM): Right as rain.
Artom is the best.

Kaylee V.: I should've persuaded him to help

ElFailzalot (GM): I was going to be very disappointed if no one went to see him. xD

Valdis: Valdis sighs: 'Well, I can at least scout ahead for any danger in the side passage.'

Kaylee V.: I'm the looter, gotta look EVERYWHERE
Or it'll bug me insanely.

ElFailzalot (GM): Heh. A good mentality to have.

Brother Luke: "Scouting ahead is never a bad course of action."

Valdis: Nods and resumes carefully ahead.

Snow Eira: Still kind of weirded out about the merchants choice of business partake, Snow returns to the group to explain the events that occured while they inspected the door.

Valdis: Takes out her handy mirror and checks around the corner again to the right

Story: As Valdis moves on ahead, she finds the tunnel shortly takes on a much more professional cast, rough, nearly eroded stairs cut into the stone leading down a gentle incline.

Kaylee V.: Dang, we keep losing Weiss

Story: Around the corner, there appears to be a fairly large room, with a number of raised platforms covered in bones, all but decayed to dust by now, and a single shaft of silvery light from the by-now risen moon shining down through a hole in the ceiling.

Valdis: Knowing the age old stories of 'spooky scary skeletons', Valdis tries to tell if the bones might come to life

Weiss S.: I'm here

Story: It's a fair bet that given their condition, even if these bones DID come to life they wouldn't be doing much. There's barely half of a complete skeleton in each pile of bones.

Weiss S.: I just am waiting on everything to occur

Kaylee V.: (Btw, Snow did tell everyone what happened just a moment ago. Aska is probably the only one who heard her though)

Weiss S.: Aska is the type to hang back

ADventuresVDO: Back again.

ElFailzalot (GM): 'guys i just met this really weird merchant-guy hanging around in these catacombs.'

Kaylee V.: Yep, that's about the sum of it.

Valdis: Valdis puts away the mirror. Standing back up, she listens to Snow's story and replied: 'Merchant...here?'

Snow Eira: "Yes, I found a corridor we missed. There was a brazier there and he appear out of thin air behind me."

Valdis: Not sure what to think of someone who decides to set up shop in underground catacombs, she just sighs and takes it in stride.
'If anyone need merchant, go now.'

ElFailzalot (GM): Valdis ain't got time for this shit. xD

Valdis: 'Afterwards, I'll lead on ahead.'

Dark L.: More like she has nothing to buy/sell right now. XD

Kaylee V.: Snow got free healing XD

Dark L.: What she needs the most right now is something like a Bag of Holding/Harwey's Handy Haversack and that's out of her price range right now.

Kaylee V.: Does everyone still have their Temp health?

ElFailzalot (GM): For the moment.

Kaylee V.: Okay

Valdis: 'Anyone going?' the dwarf comments, her stern eyes telling them to make up their mind already.

Jayth: No time.

Snow Eira: "I already conviened with this Artom fellow. Got something useful as well."

Weiss S.: Aska shakes her head
"I've neither the valuables nor the need."

Valdis: 'Brother Luke?'

Brother Luke: "Bah, no need for anything."

Valdis: Valdis doesn't know herself why she is being so uncharacteristically courteous, but she figures any additional supplies would be helpful to their cause.
Afterwards, she simply nods and decides to forge on ahead, paying attention to anything unusual.

Snow Eira: "It's definitely not natural, that much is apparent."

Valdis: Nodding gratefully to Snow, Valdis responds: 'I could throw something in the room and see what happens. Of course, it might also just respond to living creatures.'

Snow Eira: "Hm...What if I throw my torch into the mist?
