Writing Sample:
Two space pirates stared across a church roof at each other. Each wore red, each wielded a cutlass and pistol. One has proven himself a scoundrel, a traitor, a manipulator and a coward. The other had proven himself a dashing rogue, a strong leader and a champion of the defenceless and downtrodden (though he would never admit it). Both had once served in the same crew, but those times were long over. The red blood of their captain was a river that ran between them. There would be no bridge building for these two, only bridge burning.
"Marvy-chan," the tall, flamboyant traitor Basco mocked with a grin on his face. "I see Omni made the unfortunate mistake of bringing your sorry ass here. What a pity, when I'm so close to the Greatest Treasure in the Omniverse!"
The other man glowered, his grip tightening around his Gokai Gun. All he could hear when the traitor spoke was the last cries of AkaRed, sacrificing himself to the Goumin foot soldiers of the Zangyack. All he saw was the flag of the Red Pirates burning.
"What's the matter, Marvy-chan?" Basco said through his grinning teeth. "Where's the bravado, the catch phrases, the theatrics? Are you mourning the loss of your nakama? What good is GokaiRed without his crew, The Gokaiger?"
Now it was Captain Marvelous' turn to smirk. "I didn't need them when last we fought. I remember kicking your ass too."
Basco's smile got bigger. "That was before," he gloated, running a delicate finger along the edge of his cutlass. "Now, in this Omniverse, I am once again your superior."
The other pirate grit his teeth. "Big words Basco, for a coward."
"Ah ah ah, Marvy-chan," said the traitorous alien, wagging a single digit at his rival. "From where we stand now you wouldn't last a minute against me. This adventure is a game, an entertainment for our lord Omni. You wouldn't want to be eliminated before you even really got to play."
Marvelous closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, his Gokai Saber slicing downwards toward's Basco's face. The smirk didn't budge from the privateer's visage, but his hand moved faster than Marvelous could follow, moving to intercept. Basco caught the blade with hardly any effort. The Gokaiger grit his teeth and tried to free his blade, but Basco's grip was unbreakable.
"Too bad," the scoundrel sneered, flinging Captain Marvelous' blade away like it was a plastic toy. It landed blade down and lodged into the pavement below.
Marvelous scrambled backwards on the rooftop. Basco kept grinning wickedly and slowly advanced. Reaching for his gun, Marvelous squeezed the trigger and let fire a barrage of energy bullets. Without slowing down a step, Basco's hands flashed. The villain opened his hand to let several bullets fall ominously to the rooftop.
Marvelous rolled back onto his feet, his Mobirates phone in his left hand, his Ranger Key in the right. "GOKAI CHANGE!" he intoned, putting the key into its slot in the phone. A twist of the wrist and an explosion of red energy bathed him in power, solidifying into a flashy red helmet and costume. "GokaiRed!" he announced, his henshin complete.
"You're not worthy of witnessing my true form," Basco taunts.
"I've seen it," Marvelous responded. "Just when I thought you couldn't be uglier."
"There we go, Marvy-chan," laughed Basco. He stopped advancing and stood his ground about ten feet away. "Now you're getting all fired up. To bad it's ultimately pointless."
GokaiRed popped his uniform's collar. "If the Omniverse is game made for the entertainment of some godly power ..." the Sentai hero said with confidence. "Then let's make a show of it!"
"It always makes my heart pitter-patter when you use your catchphrase," Basco said with a smile. GokaiRed came charging, his gloved fists and boots flying, sparks of raw Sentai energy bursting on impact. Basco staggered back from the blow, but he was otherwise unharmed. "Unfortunately, for all your bluster and bravado, you have already lost this match."
GokaiRed jumped back and skidded to a halt. "I'm not afraid of death," he said, smirking under his helmet. "I'll gladly drag you to Hell with me."
Basco glared. He was starting to lose his composure. "You're still old reckless Marvey-chan, aren't you? Then, so be it, GokaiRed. Come at me with everything you have.
"Gokai Change!"
"DENJIMAN!" came the voice of his Mobirates as Marvelous twisted the DenjiRed key. The explosion of red energy coalesced into a new shape, a scarf tied around his neck blowing in the wind.
"What?" asked Basco raising an eyebrow.
Giant metal knuckles had appeared on Marvelous' hands. Channeling the form and power of the legendary leader of the Denjiman, the captain of the Gokaiger came barrelling towards his rival, humongous fists colliding with such power. Blow after blow struck the skinny looking Basco, and this time he moved more than a few inches across the roof. "DENJI PUNCH!"
The final blow didn't connect. A dark red glow expanded from Basco's skin, repelling the oversized fists of the pirated copy of DenjiRed. This glow grew hotter and exploded outward in all directions, sending Marvelous spiralling towards the ground. He smashed into the pavement, the copied form of the Denjiman breaking away to reveal GokaiRed underneath. Marvelous caught his breath, standing up and spotting his sword still stuck in the ground. He pulled it free, only to look up at the church roof again.
Basco perched in his true form, a demonic privateer that seemed ablaze with malevolent red energy. His eyes were two burning coals, his pirate flag emblazoned across his back. Atop the church, Basco seemed like some devil of light about to wreck trials and tribulations down upon sinners.
Basco's phone rang. Pulling the device from his jacket, a golden copy of Marvelous Mobirates, Basco answered and held it to his ear.
"Yes Sally, I understand. See ya," the glowing monster said pleasantly before hanging up. "Oy, Marvey-chan. I must make my exit."
"Hot date with your monkey boyfriend?" GokaiRed taunted upwards. Basco didn't let it phase him. With a brief flash of red, Basco reverted to his human form.
"When next we meet," Basco laughed. "We shall settle this once and for all."
"For once," Marvelous growled. "We agree."
"It wasn't always like this, Marvelous," the scoundrel called down. "We were friends once."
Marvelous let his henshin drop. "Tell that to AkaRed," he spat back.
Basco didn't respond. He turned, his feather boa blowing behind him, and soon he was out of sight.
Marvelous called the GokaiGalleon on his Mobirates for a pick up. Why did Basco have to be here, of all places. But one thing he said piqued Marvelous' curiosity.
"Greatest Treasure in the Omniverse," he said to himself as he turned away from the church and headed to his rendezvous point. He would need to get Navi on this, and fast.

I was on two incarnations of Friend or Foe. I played Enel, Crocodile, The Joker and Luffy.
