Quote:SIDE CHAPTER: The Day I Tried to Kick Butt
Dear Diary,
I am getting somewhat tired of waking up in random places. Today as I was drawn from the sheath of sleep, I was confronted by an ENORMOUS tower that loomed over me. Pedestrians strolled by my left side, narrowly missing breaking my arm with a misplaced step, and various motor vehicles ripping past on the road to my left. Groggily I raised my head and scanned the bustling surroundings, various natural and artificial sounds echoing off of buildings and through alleyways. My vision soon sharpened and I peeled myself off of the paving, dusting off my cloak and skirt. Yet another place to escape; what fun.
Of course, the first place I felt inclined to visit was the tower that threatened the sky. I had to force my entire, puny weight against the ginormous glass door, and from the sheer power that I pressed against it, I was sent into a forwards tumble and barely caught myself as I rolled onto the heels of my boots. My jaw dropped in awe at the spectacle that surrounded me, and I was just desperate to check it out and comb every single nook and cranny! I was quick to bolt up the stairs, multiple flights actually, and ended up in what seemed to be a museum of technological equipment and weaponry! IT WAS SO COOL!
There was this kinda jet pack thing with wings, a little spider with some kind of mechanism in it, a bunch of tiny little robots that were flying around in a cylindrical dome... I was almost drooling! But my obsessive focus was quickly shattered by the blast of gunshots and the screaming of civilians below, I winced and cowered, covering my head until the ringing passed, before I uncurled and made my way to the balcony that overlooked the first floor. A large man in some kind of armour and a strange pistol stood in the middle of the crowd, confronting a downed security guard. I stood silent, instinctively reaching back for Crescent Rose. To my delight, my fingers brushed the crimson metal, but I didn't grasp her just yet. I continued to spectate the soldier as he made for the elevator.
Exhaling sharply, I rushed to the elevator on my floor, parallel to the one the guy with the armour was riding. I gave the button a quick tap, but nothing happened. It was ostensibly on another floor, and in frustration and desperation I began mashing the arrow like a maniac, until finally my ride arrived, spewing out civilians. If I wanted to catch the guy, I had to play my cards carefully. It was difficult to hear his elevator through the rumbling of mine as I race towards the top (thankfully I caught it without anyone following), but I managed to hear it squeal to a halt above. Spinning around, I tapped the emergency stop, and my elevator screeched on the steel railings, all the mechanisms screaming in pain. As the doors finally flung open and the elevator gave a sharp jolt I was knocked to my knees and skittered towards the opening.
My intended stop was much further up than where I was stuck, and I frowned in disappointment. I grasped the weapon from my waist and swung her forwards, the entire scythe folding outwards from her compact state. Crouching, I leaped from my platform and swung the curved weapon overhead, impaling her into the cement of the wall. I grunted as I clung to her shaft, holding on for dear life. "Alright, Ruby... you can do this..." I encouraged myself and pressed against the wall, ejecting the scythe blade. Acting quickly, I swung once more, and the blade hooked into the gap between the doors above. I sighed in relief as I hauled myself up my weapon and onto the small space I had.
Crescent Rose stayed between my feet and I reached down, pressing my right palm to the right side of her head. The blade acted as a lever and began prying the door open. Finally the two sides shunted aside and I yanked the scythe from underneath me, stepping onto the floor. The armoured male stood a few feet ahead of me, ready to rock and roll. With a grimace and a flashy flourish of Crescent Rose, the wooden floor shuddering as the blade pierced through, the barrel poised on the male attacker who seemed to freeze for a moment.
"Okay... who are you and what are you doing?" I asked, keeping any threatening tone out of my voice; although he had a gun pointed at him, he was likely to feel a little more acquiescent if I didn't go ahead and start spurting death threats.
