Solomon Grundy vs. Colonel
#6
His entire world flashed white. garbage code and warnings flashing relentlessly across his vision, telling him what he already knew: DANGER, SYSTEM INTEGRITY COMPROMISED. It was rapidly getting to the point that even his robust combat adaptation routines were finding it hard to cope. He still had his full functionality, but barely.

Then the ground reasserted itself.

With a violent crash, Colonel 's brief flight was brought to a screeching halt as he once again impacted one of the absurdly small mountains. The rocky formation took the brunt of the impact...then shattered, leaving the soldier program in a pile of rubble and dust.

And for a long, long moment, it looked like that might have been enough.

And then all of the rubble covering him shifted. Sparks and leaking bits of his data 'blood' flowing freely from every crack and joint in his body, Colonel heaved himself up out of the dust, to one knee. His breathing came in short, ragged gasps through sharply clenched teeth. If he'd had actual blood to spill, no doubt it would have been leaking from between those teeth freely.

Going to need to go all-out to have a chance of finishing this. Need to hit him hard with everything I've got left, while I still can...

Slowly, he regained his feet. He was unsteady, the sparks dancing along his damaged form flaring up in protest to the movement. Another WARNING flashed across his vision. Wonderful. If his internal systems were taking issue with something as simple as moving, they were really going to have a field day with what he had planned for this last ditch effort.

"Robot man stubborn. Need to know when to STAY DOWN!" The simple, brutish voice roared across the intervening distance, heavy footfalls already striking the earth as the hulking abomination closed the distance between them.

Colonel's expression was focused, shoving the pain to the back of his mind, forcefully shutting off his internal warning system. He knew he wasn't going to be doing any moving on his own, one way or the other, very soon. "A good soldier doesn't stay down." A low rumble spread through the earth, tiny pebbles and chunks of debris rattling with the movement, dust kicking up around him. "And I was programmed to be a good soldier." Purple fire blazed out from under his feet, roaring up into a dark indigo blaze around his entire form, nearly twice his own height. The rubble around him was blown away with the force of it, kicking up a thick screen of dust and grit, casting the soldier program into silhouette.

A flash of green rent the miniature dust storm, blowing it away. Still sparking and highly damaged, but with only focus and cold, implacable determination written on his face, the perfect navi stood there, the blade of his saber pointed at the chalk-white monstrosity still slowly advancing toward him. About his entire body, a dim outline of glimmering violet flames still roiled and flickered, and his eyes practically blazed with flickering green light. "This ends now."

With a flourish of his blade, Colonel brought it to bear in a defensive, ready stance over his chest, bent at the knees, sparks flickering wildly about the joints, and broke into a dash straight at his much larger foe. A huge cloud of dust was left in his wake from the force of his initial 'launch', and he practically flew across the intervening distance, compared to his earlier movements.

In answer the giant brute merely let out a roar of challenge, breaking into a slow, lumbering run of his own, his hammer-like fists at the ready.

The impact when they met kicked up another cloud of dust.

Fist met fist. Sparks and disgusting ichor flew every which-way.

Colonel lost feeling in his arm, but the very distinctive, rippling crunch told him his foe hadn't fared much better.

The both of them staggered back, but the soldier navi didn't give even a moment's pause. He rebounded from the clash, his saber whirling around in a dizzying arc to strike across the zombified hulk's chest, leaving a gash in his pale flesh nearly from hip to shoulder, more of that disgusting, green sludge dripping — nay, oozing — from it. If it bothered him at all, the monster didn't even show it, aside from a renewed spark of fury in his eyes.

"Stand down, abomination!"

"GRUNDY NOT TAKE ORDERS FROM YOU!"

Flickering energy blade met hamfist, kicking up another shockwave and sending both combatants staggering wildly back once again. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
