Quote:Aaaaaaaand I lost her. A mere two steps led me to be cut off by a pair of orange-clad swaggering fellows, bellowing some drunken ditty like fools from a castle, and then I copped a hip-check from some bustling woman in GIANT high heels and carrying some kind of... mirror? Except it wasn't a mirror, it was more like a... I dunno, like a mirror in a frying pan. Don't ask. Anyway, there were way too many people blocking Weiss and I off, and I wasn't known for being able to track people down. However, I DID know someone who was...CHAPTER 8
PAGE 1
Breaking away from the crowd into a small, run-down building that looked like something Uncle Qrow might visit, I keeled over, palms against my knees, lungs heaving. "Weiss... I think... I've become... claustrophobic..." I panted, taking exaggeratedly raspy breaths. "You don't become claustrophobic." She responded matter-of-factly, and I whimpered as I was thwarted by Schnee Logic once more. I perked my head back up and placed my hands to my back, stretching my abdomen forwards. "Alright, time to call the cavalry." I muttered, rubbing my hands together and getting to work in summoning.
I shut my eyes and gently pressed my hands out towards the rickety floorboards, focusing the sinewy, rainbow fluid that constructed my being into a single spot. I imagined the small, roly-poly body, the furry ears, the monochrome colours of the fluffy coat, and not to mention the bushy, waggy tail that had the four of us in hypnosis time and time again. It seemed summoning a living being took much longer than summoning, say, my diary. Soon enough, a muffled yapping, as if bagged and placed ten meters from my position, evolved into a quiet bark, and then the volume increased with the frequency. My argent eyes flew open to see the little dog, sitting obediently upon the dusty floor. Well, dusty apart from where Zwei sat.
"Zwei!" I exclaimed jubilantly, as if the dog were a Christmas present. I scooped the pooch up and held him close to my chest. Weiss's eyes flew wide with joy and she nearly tore my arms off just to pet Zwei! "Ohh, hello there, you little cutey~" She cooed to the dog, and I had to lean my head back to make sure her stray fingers didn't poke an eye out. "A-alright, Weiss, I think that's enough!" I warned, uncomfortable with my bent-back position. The ivory haired fencer detached herself from my pet, whom I gently let down onto the ground.
"Alright boy, I need you to help me find someone." A sharp yap and the excited wagging of a tail allowed me to continue on. "She has black hair, dog ears-" The little fella tilted his head and twitched his ears cutely this way and that, "-hehe, yes, like yours, Zwei. She wears a dress that looks like the night sky and smells like... uh..." I turned to Weiss for help, and she simply mouthed the words 'flowers'. I threw a thumbs up in return and spoke once more to Zwei. "And smells like flowers. You got that, boy?" I asked, and he began running in circles like a lunatic. "Haha, I'll take that as a great big yes!" I laughed, walking with Weiss out of the shack place.
We stalked behind the hound as he weaved and barreled his way through the forest of legs and stumps and tails, et cetera et cetera. Eventually we broke through - after multiple dead ends at food stalls, because dogs will be dogs - and Zwei instantly recoiled as he came across something that smelled pretty atrocious, even to Weiss and I. I laid wary eyes upon the colossus of a man standing not twenty feet away, looming over someone. Brain in overdrive, I reached behind for Crescent Rose, but spotted to figures run up to whomever the big guy seemed to be attacking; one was that green mage guy from earlier, and the other was Rebecca! That meant that...
After leaning just to my left, I noticed a smiling Jade looking up at the big fellow. "O-oh, Weiss! She's over there! Let's go!" I shouted, grabbing her wrist and beginning to yank her along... but I was halted by a vibrating in my waistband. I slipped the Scroll out and opened it to see a notification reading "INCOMING CALL" above a picture of a blond beauty with amethyst eyes. My breath hitching, I answered the call and raised the phone to my ear.
-H-hello?
-W-wait, Yang, is that really you?!
-You were brought here too? I posted in that thingy on the Dataverse by the way, if you wanted to know!
-Yeah… I do know how she gets.
-Ahh, you’re both still stuck in the Nexus! Yes, Weiss is here with me… she’s not doing all too well, Snow White can’t really take the heat here.
I looked to Weiss to make sure she wasn't focused on me and OH MY GOODNESS SHE HAS A SCARY STARE SOMETIMES.
-We’re somewhere called Camelot, I’m sure Blake would know about it… it’s not too much like all the stories I read, honestly...
Yang spoke again and I cut in before she continued on.
-Heh… about that…
-You won’t believe how happy we were when we found eachother in the infi- on the way from the gate!
-U-uhm… what do you mean by ‘you went through literal hell’? What happened?!
-Alright… as long as you didn’t go causing any trouble over it… you did, didn’t you?
Yang sounded pretty embarrassed, and I rolled my eyes as I sighed.
-Hughh… I guess it doesn’t really matter anymore since we technically don’t exist… okay, that’s actually a kinda depressing thought.
-Alright, if you can come to Camelot and come meet some of our - well, MY new friends, that would be awesome! Weiss likes the dragon man though, that much she’s shown!
-Well, when you consider he’s a DRAGON, I don’t see why not… but then again she also took a liking to my friend Jade’s dog, so I guess it’s those that aren’t human or Faunus that REALLY melt her! Oh, yeah, speaking of Faunus… we may wanna keep Blake away from the dog…
She made a pun about Blake being a 'pussy' and I groaned in agony, hoping my despair was conveyed to my sister.
-I can’t believe you really just said that…
-Yeah, shouldn’t be too hard… we’re near this giant Colosseum structure, not too far away from the Carnival games.
-...apart from the fact that there’s lots, and I mean LOTS of people? No, not really.
-Take the amount of people who were watching the Vytal Tournament… and multiply that by two- nope, maybe three… and that’s JUST at the Colosseum.
-I just hope you get over here before I lose sight of Jade, haha!
-You REALLY like to have your way…
-You… could summon a giant laser pointer and put it on the front of Bumblebee?
-Either that or you let her drive and you can enjoy the ride?
-Writing something? Like… a diary? That’s what I’ve been doing here, so that I can read all my adventures and maybe find some clues as to how to get to this ‘Omni’ guy…
-Ehhh, I’ve heard rumours… apparently you can get to him and he will answer your questions the best he can and grant you one wish.
-Yeah, I understand. I guess I’ll see you later, Yang!
A beeping filled my ear as Yang hung up, and a wide grin was plastered to my face. The menacing grimace that had momentarily taken the reigns of Weiss's features was gone and replaced with a smile about as bright as mine... hard to get that bright when you're so cold though, hehe... okay, she's gonna kill me if she reads that.
"Why didn't you tell me Yang and Blake were here?!" She asked, surprisingly not contorting her grin to match her irritated tone. I backed up as she approached me rather closely. "Weeeeell, you were kinda talking to a dragon, and I found something Yang put up and responded, and meant to tell you after you were done... and, uh, kinda forgot... sorry." I apologized, and Weiss sighed, seemingly fed up with me being a ditz. "Well, all that matters is that we're all here, right?" She suggested, and I responded with a chuckle and no more. "Alright, let's go see Jade and friends." I said gleefully, a new spring in my step as I skipped forwards.
I ended up beside Jade, looking up into the eerie, but dopishly kind eyes of a giant zombie. "H-hey there!" I greeted him, putting on as big a smile as possible. I could hear Weiss in the background greet Jade with a 'Hello again!' as she likely clutched Zwei. "M-my name's Ruby!" I stuttered to the giant. As much as his gleeful expression and simple attire suggested a caring nature, it was hard to stay calm in front of such an imposing figure. He was the size of an Ursa, maybe even an Ursa Major! THAT is pretty big. I hoped Weiss would introduce herself sooner or later, buuuuuut she got a free pass for the time being.
Quote:Full conversation between Ruby and Yang is detailed below.
R(uby): H-hello?
Y(ang): Ruby? Hey, is that you over there?
R: W-wait, Yang, is that really you?!
Y: RUBY! I’d recognize your voice anywhere! Yes, of course it’s me!
R: You were brought here too? I posted in that thingy on the Dataverse by the way, if you wanted to know!
Y: Oh, yeah, I noticed! I found your contact request right after reading your reply. Sorry about Blake not adding you by the way, she’s into something else right now... you know how she gets.
R: Yeah… I do know how she gets.
Y: Hehe... so uh. Where are you? Is Weiss with you? We’re at what looks like Vale Café, but there’s white all around us. And portals, apparently.
R: Ahh, you’re both still stuck in the Nexus! Yes, Weiss is here with me… she’s not doing all too well, Snow White can’t really take the heat here. We’re somewhere called Camelot, I’m sure Blake would know about it… it’s not too much like all the stories I read, honestly...
Y: Camelot? Heh, we KNEW you’d go there. Blake mentioned that whole Arthus or whatwashisname legends, I knew you wouldn’t miss the chance to meet a hero from the books-
R: Heh… about that…
Y: -Still great to hear that you’re together, though!
R: You won’t believe how happy we were when we found eachother in the infi- on the way from the gate!
Y: Oh, you ran into each other? That’s great! Blake and I were pulled minutes from one another... I went through literal hell when Blake disappeared right before my eyes, before I got pulled here too.
R: U-uhm… what do you mean by ‘you went through literal hell’? What happened?!
Y: Well... Blake and I were looking for... ah, no. That’s too long. But basically I saw her disappearing in front of me, and I was the only one left over. I thought I would be alone, until I got pulled in too. I’ll explain the full story when we meet up in person, okay?
R: Alright… as long as you didn’t go causing any trouble over it… you did, didn’t you?
Y: Uhh... hehe…
R: Hughh… I guess it doesn’t really matter anymore since we technically don’t exist… okay, that’s actually a kinda depressing thought.
Y: Look, that’s past... we’re back together now. And I - no, we both - want to meet you as soon as we can.
R: Alright, if you can come to Camelot and come meet some of our - well, MY new friends, that would be awesome! Weiss likes the dragon man though, that much she’s shown!
Y: Someone else than Zwei can melt Ice Queen? Really?
R: Well, when you consider he’s a DRAGON, I don’t see why not… but then again she also took a liking to my friend Jade’s dog, so I guess it’s those that aren’t human or Faunus that REALLY melt her! Oh, yeah, speaking of Faunus… we may wanna keep Blake away from the dog…
Y: Oh, Blake’s just overdoing it. She’s a big pussy sometimes, hehe…-
R: I can’t believe you really just said that…
Y: -but okay, Camelot. I’ll tell Blake about it. How big is that place by the way, can we find you easily?
R: Yeah, shouldn’t be too hard… we’re near this giant Colosseum structure, not too far away from the Carnival games.
Y: Colosseum, Carnival, got it. I guess we can ask around til we find our way there. I’ll be using Bumblebee, so I hope you can hear the sound from afar. Anything else we should know about this place?
R: ...apart from the fact that there’s lots, and I mean LOTS of people? No, not really.
Y: Didn’t we already have tons of people in Vale?
R: Take the amount of people who were watching the Vytal Tournament… and multiply that by two- nope, maybe three… and that’s JUST at the Colosseum.
Y: Woah, THAT big. Okay, yeah, that’s pretty awesome… well, I hope we can get there before everyone leaves then!
R: I just hope you get over here before I lose sight of Jade, haha!
Y: Just ask her to stay a bit longer to meet your awesome sister! We’ll be right on our way, even if I have to tie Blake onto the back of Bumblebee.
R: You REALLY like to have your way…
Y: Well you know me. And Blake probably won’t notice… I mean, I’m looking at her right now, I don’t think she’s realizing that I’m talking to you.
R: You… could summon a giant laser pointer and put it on the front of Bumblebee?
Y: Oh right, I gotta get this summoning thing down… heh. But that’d be evil for Blake. I mean, she’d have to run next to me all the trip. Maybe I can draw her attention with tuna instead?
R: Either that or you let her drive and you can enjoy the ride?
Y: Guess I could do that too. I’ll ask her about it, once she’s done with whatever she was doing… writing something, I believe.
R: Writing something? Like… a diary? That’s what I’ve been doing here, so that I can read all my adventures and maybe find some clues as to how to get to this ‘Omni’ guy…
Y: Might just be a diary, yeah. I have no idea. And you can get to him? I figured that all we saw of him would be the first time he greets us…
R: Ehhh, I’ve heard rumours… apparently you can get to him and he will answer your questions the best he can and grant you one wish.
Y: Huh... That’s pretty wild, actually. Might be a worthwhile trip. But listen… I think we should be on our way, Blake and I. We’ll meet up soon, okay sis?
R: Yeah, I understand. I guess I’ll see you later, Yang!
