Legacy & War (Battle of Nippur)
#38
A river of jagged emerald light burned from my wand rapturously, piercing the heart of the flying vagabond's best attempts to deny me rightful retribution. Truly a sight to see as my powers were tested and proven the better as they should be. As nature demanded it. His fiery assault disbursed outward in a dying explosion from under the strain of my birthright striking the mutt from the sky like so many other mongrels that had ever challenged me.

That was how a proper Killing Curse was performed. Now one mouse was taken care of, time to see the rat put in its place as well, for good-

A golden triangle greeted my vision as I turned back towards where the usurper had lain, shining with an intensity that didn’t belie what came next. As I said before pain is impossible to describe to those uninitiated to the art of being held by the mistress of agony. I was coupled with suffering that was as absolute as it was dimorphic. My bones were turned to shards of glass, my blood alchemically transfused into bleach, and my mind swimming in a sea of incomprehension as undeserving rage was rained down upon me to the point where vision and awareness were secondary to each and every blow, until even that was torn from me. All that remained was a thrumming vibration within the earth itself, a roaring throb within my spine, cracked crevices of my cover and the very pages that were my true self torn.

I was utterly alone, I realized, my constructed body had been disbursed. Time barely had any meaning for me other than those tremors. That whore of a usurper would soon find out that one simply does not manhandle a dark lord and live to regret it.

Vengeance.

I opened myself to it, embraced the core of who was around it, fueling it with my soul so that I would rise again.

The world came back to me in startlingly blurred focus. The pains of my true body faded away as my replacement came into existence, supplanting my normally limited senses. My limbs were sodden, my heart pounding with all the force it could muster. It was enough; it had to be, though it didn’t feel like it could possibly be.

Staggering to my feet from within a person shaped indentation of myself filled with ash, ink and embers, I scoured the area as quickly I could for my quarry or any others who presented themselves as a threat. Only ruin and corpses greeted me until I turned around.

The red and yellow star’s face bored into me as he rebuffed two soldier’s attempts to flank him with gloriously ineffective results. The red haired usurper was further away dealing with what looked like two others of a more unique persuasion. The Star would have to do instead.

Vengeance.

Air caught my lungs, the smell of ink upon the wind. I raised my wand as much as my sluggish muscles could carry me and began my assault and then thrusting myself sideways. My mind began incanting harshly to bring up a forward burst as three pale prismatic bolts and a blinding flash launched forward only to be greeted by a shield of sickly yellow. I started charging my magic again immediately, not waiting for breathing time. The pattern from my first attack held true as the earth was suddenly rented cruelly where I had been, taking several corpses with it into a sallow maw. I didn’t care beyond the instant of archiving the knowledge as I met attack for attack.

“Lacero!” Throwing myself left, my throat burned with an unexpected pain to the point that it croaked out the incantation. The word though was uttered, I brought my wand about a second time with fiery tip. The thicker orange starburst was again met with the yellow shield but this time the shield gave in. Crushing and mutually destructing, leaving only a horrible explosion behind and threw us both.

An instant later though he was upon me far faster than I could manage to believe. A blazing blade of sunlight swept to cut me down, I barely moved out of the way as it passed to my left, slicing down my left forearm. Pain inviting awareness I so keenly needed at that moment, lightening my feet and bringing warmth at my side at the weapon’s passing.

This thing deserved far more than a quick death. However fate was what I deigned to meet out not what I wanted. Being denied my prey, by this man, by the other, the usurper being protected from his rightful punishment.

Vengeance.

I screamed as I pointed my wand at his chest, a ribbon of green forming at my command, “Avada Kedavra!”
