The blast caught Cell Delta across the chest and stomach, and the force launched the cyborg off his feet. He flew backwards before his momentum abated, and with a dull thud, he hit the soot-stained earth and made no effort to move. At the sight of the limp man, Proto Man’s fury quickly abated, and strangely enough, he soon felt grief about striking down the malicious warrior. Rather than satisfaction about avenging one of his robot brothers, Proto Man just felt empty…
That was, of course, until Cell Delta pushed himself up off the ground and turned to smirk at the preteen android.
“It’s quite fitting that you would be the first one in so very long to injury me,” the Soviet cyborg remarked as he rose up to his feet. As he stood up from the ground, it became visibly apparent that the shotgun-like energy burst had torn through much of his thorax, exposing steel-inlaid bones and scorched muscle tissue. Fresh blood trickled from blood vessels that had been ruptured by the concussive force of the blast and his rough landing on the ground. “The last individual to pull this off was a bipedal turtle,” he added as he removed the tattered remnants of his coat.
“What do you gain from any of this?” Proto Man demanded as he readied the Proto Buster in the event that he’d be forced to defend himself once again.
“What anyone and everyone wants--Power. That’s the only way to exist in this hell. Grow stronger or die, like your friend over there. You’ll learn.” With that, the cyborg rushed at his younger opponent. Slinging up his arm cannon, Proto Man released the charged blast and watched as Cell Delta almost casually flipped over the lightning-fast burst. When the Soviet landed on his feet, he fired a pair of energy bolts from his palms, catching the red robot in the chest and skull. Proto Man staggered backwards and tried to hold up his hands to defend himself, but his foe smacked them aside with a swift kick and then used the very same appendage to deliver a crushing blow to the side of the preteen’s head.
