Legacy & War (Battle of Nippur)
#15
Demetri felt the eerie and definitive sense of deja vu as his encounter with the king was interrupted. Was this his past trying to strike back at the kingdom he doomed so long ago? It hardly seemed likely. Either way, there was a war about to happen at this very location.

Demetri needed to get some gear. He started by focusing and reforming his chains, as their familiar cold steel put him at ease. Using his senses, he searched the palace for an armory, and found one rather quickly. He faded as he crept into the stash of weaponry. He would need something to carry it all in. His old satchel would be perfect.

With little effort, Demetri summoned his satchel, its rugged leather worn, yet sturdy. With a skeptical look, he slowly reached in before his hand passed where the bottom should be, reaching out into the void, its new addition. This was marvelous. Like the Grinch on Christmas Eve, the thief snatched up whatever he could get his hands on with a face full of glee.

Despite its endless capacity, weight forced him to limit his selection to a few weapons and items.

A ring alerted him of a message from headmaster. Demetri stopped just inside the palace gates and checked the message. An up-to-date list of current Institute members. This shall be helpful. Perhaps there are others nearby. Glancing through the message, Demetri paused as his heart sank, and his eyes focused on a single name.

Victor Wolfe

Well, the gods be damned. Had he the time, or an appropriate place, Demetri would have banged his head on a miscellaneous desk to enforce his stupidity. He supposed that he might as well offer a hand in order to clear his name. No need for such a report to reach the God-Mind.

At this point, Demetri calculated that if he has caused this much chaos and grief for the city, maybe it was time to share the grief with the enemy. The thief then creept about, hiding from the blazing sun, his eyes squinting against the harsh light and coarse sand flying through the air. Soldiers lined the streets, preparing to defend their homes from new invaders. A few looked at him suspiciously.

Demetri took a deep breath, focusing on his body and its essence, just like he would do to deceive his enemy. Using his will, he began to force his essence to not only separate, but split it, and after a short moment, 5 thieves stood outside the palace.

Within an instant, they were off. Chains flew as five men quickly move to the rooftops, astounding and frightening some of locals and soldiers.

Demetri spotted a cluster of primes. Three men, as it seemed. The red-skinned one with sleek, black hair seemed to be the one that cast the yellow light and shouted the challenge to the city. Another seemed normal by all means, a wizard from the look of his attacks, with short black hair. The last was a dark skinned man with orange hair, a warlock with some nice gauntlets.

An opening appeared before him as the orange haired one seemed to copy the wizards style, casting a rather deadly looking spell. He would need to be careful of such trickery by that one. The five thieves jumped from the shadows, but none were genuine. Demetri crouched low with the gloom of darkness upon his face and shoulders, spying his enemies as they were caught aware of his mirror images.A giant yellow fist came from the red-skinned prime above and pummeled one of the doppelgangers, turning it into air as the image made contact. Another was grappled by the dark warlock and dissipated in front of him.

The thief had made his way behind the warlock, before shooting his chains into the gauntlets he wore. He quickly jumped over the man, then kicked his feet off of his chest, giving the thief a boost as the warlock fell back. The gauntlets slipped off, blood spraying into the air as the blades from the chains tore them from their owner. Demetri flipped over and landed on his feet as the chains retracted with his prize.

As the rogue tried to equip his new gear, something felt off. The item was not giving off the same power as before, when the warlock held them. It seemed to have lost power after being separated from its owner, and some type of magic prevented him from using what was left. With a quick flash of hands, the gauntlets were stuffed into the satchel. He would not allow his opponent to know of this predicament. Demetri then spoke aloud to the warlock in mocking tone.

"It’s a start," he said with a grin.
